While working for ICCL as the environmental/chemical engineer, I spent the majority of my time working in deep cooperation with the production&enviromental manager and production engineers. I really enjoyed the variety of work that my job entailed. Depending on what was happening in the factory, my job changed from hour to hour making it pretty intensive and very exciting. I never thought I would have been involved with so many challenging opportunities. The first three months I spent working as a process engineer. I got job training, mainly on site, working with production people (quarry, raw mill, kiln, cement mills and dispatch areas). This helped me to understand the production process from start to finish. What’s more, I had the chance to observe how implemented procedures really work, what caused the biggest problems for employees, what kind of instructions are really death records.
After this first phase, I was asked to focus specifically on the environment area and to be fully responsible for all non-compliance, accidents, complaints etc. My new role demanded a lot of observing, checking, calculating all records and in case of any problems, directly informing the production and environmental manager.
On a daily basis, I was obliged to monitor the production process and keep emission levels below the required limit according to IPPC licence ( air, water, waste, noise etc). From time to time, I was asked to present the environmental performance in front of the board of directors.
Apart from that, I was involved in the following projects: implementation and comissioning of the SNCR system, updating of the IPC licence.
