If it is causing a problem in your life - that would be a simplified criterium for naming an addiction in that case, I suppose, or at least for seeking evaluation and treatment.

It's funny. The kid in China was probably playing games or whatever. Now he has kidney problems instead.

In the US the manual of mental disorders that psychs use doesn't come out until 2012. There is a pre-survey for opinions. Maybe they'll list it.

But I believe army style discipline may be good for some people.

I wonder about a comparison in hours spent between watching TV, say, in the 60's 70's and 80's and Internet use these days. I hardly watch TV. I probably have several weekly hours here, though.

I wouldn't have wanted my dad to be medicated or institutionalized for watching so much football or "news."

Me either. They could tell you to put one foot in ice water and another in the oven and tell you that you are perfectly comfortable, as in the old saying about statistics.
