This is the only site where I use my real name. You can find some artist info on the net with my name on it, but it's really nothing substantial. Some basic info about releases, events and art projects that's about it.

I think the article is very good for anyone who feels like they ought to be worried and who are, like me, not very knowlegeable about the subject.

I use my real name here, on LinkedIn and FB. Maybe FB is not the best choice, but I do not really care about my 'google reputation'. If someone is stalking me on the web, I am not aware of this, and therefore do not care much. And my employer does not bother to google my name (at least I think so).
I had problems with what I've been writing here on GL once, but it was personal, and I left it in Poland, so do not care a lot as well. Not anymore :)

I have just had a butcher's at Google and I don't think my reputation needs particular care so, no, I don't worry. Unless one day I discover someone has maliciously positioned my name to link it to some "Geile Omas" or "Hausfrauen von hintern" websites ;)

What if someone's got it in for you?

It's easy to recognize what's fake.

And how? I just control the information I spread and check how does it look like in google from time to time.

Someone included my name in an album in a way that suggests I'm one of the song writers or artists in the band. The act has strong political lyrics and ideas that I don't support personally.
Only thing I did was to engineer the album.

We can't control everything in internet at all. Far from it.
Even if we are able to change some web pages sometimes (although it is very unlikely), the `signs` of the old pages will remain and appear in the searches. Almost forever.

Obviously you can control what information you give about yourself, but not what others say about you.

As I said, it doesn't have to be a problem. On "official" places, like here or linkedin, you can edit i.e. bad recomendations. You can't edit forum messages that include your name and that could be a problem as long as you can't ask a moderator to edit/remove the post.

On other places you don't give your "real" name. That's all.
