I was watching documentary about Israel’s prisons yesterday and I was thinking what the f** is the point of convicting a person for triple perpetuity and 30 years imprisonment. Or 16xperpetuity and 16 years imprisonment. How long is triple life imprisonment?

How long is triple life imprisonment? If you include good behaviour well I would say anywhere around 60 - 70 years. Quite the incentive.

Ok, so let's be optimistic 60 x 3 + 30 = 210 years
or 60 x 16 + 16 = 976 years!!

I agree its a joke,although I believe once the prisoner dies in prison his spouse should be dragged in and then their children and their children's children should be imprisoned until the full sentence has been completed. Of course the prison authorities should keep proper paperwork and records as after 700 odd years or so mistakes are bound to be made.

This sentences were announced with great authority of the Israel’s court, so I assumed it was not a joke. And I thought about the same thing, Benjamin. But is it possible to imprison innocent children? I don’t think so, not in Israel.

Marek, surely it is for real, and surely it can be explained by lawyers.My guess would be: "We can't talk about "justice" if we stop adding the years mathematically, whatever the regular human life expectancies are".

For me, it matters. Some of the people should be prisoned for couple of thousand years, because death penalty can not be applied and a single "125 years of prison sentence" does not satisfy me :).

Sorry Marek I was being sarcastic about children paying for their parents crime but you are right its ridiculous to imprison someone for longer than their natural life. I guess its just a matter of lawmakers being powerless to change the laws and the additional time serves no purpose other than legal protocol. The death sentence is the only other option but that too doesnt always satisfy the victims so in my belief Justice is always a subjective word.

You're absolutely right, Iter. But what's the difference between 7 x life imprisonment + 40 years and for example 8 x live imprisonment + 25 years. And how they judge that X should be sentenced for 7 life imprisonment but Y just for 6?
