here is a great quote I just found..

"The Egyptians wrote about a lot of stuff and many different people, but never about Jews or Hebrews. It's a fanciful story, but nothing more. It's a shame that the modern world is on the brink of nuclear warfare because a bunch of white folks from Europe and America fancy themselves descended from a magical tribe of god's chosen and are now lording it over the native population"

Sorry :))
Didn't see the previous discussions...
All I am trying to say is that there are scientists who believe in evolution and there are scientists who don't.
Both follow BOOKS - different books.
Science is a lot better at disproving things than proving them.
We all have to BELIEVE, and so we are all BELIEVERS - just in different things :)

Andrzej Czopek:
And would that make me any less of a BELIEVER than > you? :)

Evolution vs. Man living inside of a giant fish, walking on water, parting of the red sea, talking snake, talking to a burning bush, turning into a salt statue, people living for hundreds of years, curing the blind, raining frogs and the list just goes on and on... it would probably be a lot more believable if they didn't steal all the dates and details from other religions... but even then.. I mean 'cmon now - one god... right? We agree on that one? OK... so what's with the holy trinity then?

Also... [yes, I know, we've covered this already]... I'm not digging this whole incest thing either.

What makes this book of myths different from let's say the Greek Mythology or the Egyptians? Oh.. that's right, it's much younger... much, much younger [not to mention the convenience of a monotheistic religion.. and the money you save!]. Vishnu calls seniority rules, Yahweh gets to sit bitch in the back seat of this history ride and Swiatowid get the front passenger seat 'cause he's in charge of directions.

No thanks, I'll vote logic vs. fairy folk tales.

I love logic.
May I ask how has logic developed in animals? Is logic bio-chemical?
Again, just trying to learn.

Nope... I choose not to believe, I'd rather question than blindly follow a book of myths written by people with Bronze Age level of education.

By the way, would you let a Bronze Age man teach you about morals... not to mention science?

This is why we were equipped with common sense, logic and ability to reason.

We survived, we’ve managed to outsmart other mammals and climb the latter; proof is in your face no matter which way you look, all you have to do is look however and for millions the task of objective observation proves to be a rather difficult one.

Wait, I didn't tell you what I believe. I am just asking questions :)
Maybe trying to make up my mind?
My experiential logic is showing me that no complex thing happens out of chaos. I've seen people put together computers, but I have never seen a guy throw in a bunch of computer parts in a box, shake it for a long time and... voila. DELL!

I've seen children born, but I have never seen or heard of any life that became life without existence of a previous life.

To me, that's logic. You can ridicule my logic - that's your right.
I am just QUESTIONING things ;)

haha.. actually that's exactly how DELL works.

I've seen children born, but I have never seen or > heard of any life that became life without existence of a
previous life.

After shooting a high velocity gun into water, organic molecules were found forming - fatty acids, amines and amino acids - bang - life out of nothing.

This experiment was conducted to test this fairly new theory which concluded that a meteor impact could have been responsible for forming life on earth.

To me, that's logic. You can ridicule my logic - that's your right.
I am just QUESTIONING things ;)

I’m not ridiculing just pointing out the fact that belief system is based on ... well nothing. It may come off as ridicule... but that's what happens when you take a step back and look at any religion objectively. Great source of folklore, but that's where the positive aspect of it ends.

And so we came from these amines and amino acids... Seems like something's missing, but OK ;)
Didn't you just read it in some BOOK? :)
Gosh, I feel like I am being evangelized. I wish you religious people would sometimes keep you religious beliefs to yourselves.

Amino acids = building blocks of ALL life, it's what WE are made of.

Yes... devine intervention.
Didn't you just read it in some BOOK? :)

Oh yea.. I did.. one that was written way after the Bronze Age.. you know, after we figured out that the earth is not flat.
Gosh, I feel like I am being evangelized. I wish you religious people would sometimes keep you religious beliefs to yourselves.
;)

Hey... you started this mess. I was asking about mythology... but not this one.

Hoyle's Boeing 747 theory proves nothing. Of COURSE life wasn't a random thing, but then again, I don't believe it was started by an omnipotent being, who then decided to control all of its aspects. We don't really know what there was in the beginning, but there couldn't have been much chaos - atoms are far from being chaotic.
Evolution isn't about getting random amino acids together and banging them the way a toddler plays with their wooden blocks. It is about a careful selection of useful and purposeful material.

Of course, the origins of life are still a mystery, but we have enough evidence to support natural selection rather than believe there was a supreme being who flicked their fingers and created animals, and people. So, I choose to believe the more probable.

Hey, wasn't Newton a famous scientist who came up with some famous laws? That was like LONG TIME AGO... They still seem to apply, strangely enough. Anyways, off to lunch. Oh, my bio-chemical conscience is telling me I have been neglecting my stomach :)

(the things you believe are AS OLD as the human civilization - just for the record) :)

I don't think ancient Egyptians believed in evolution, but if you say so... I'd be glad if they had. I don't understand why people find it so hard to at least consider the possibility of there being no "God".

If I may :-). I think what Andrzej meant was that you have beliefs - maybe different, but some nevertheless. For once - you believe there is no God. You don't have evidence to proving it to be true or false, so it must be your belief. IMHO.

And I just love the fact that there is more paganism in Christian religion than truly Christian themes themselves. Makes discussions with catholics so much more interesting, especially when they don't know the facts :-).

Plus they must have had some really good stuff back then, when you read the Bible it's clearly visible someone had a lot of fun tripping ;-).

I must agree haha.. but if think about the Greeks or the Hindu now that's some grade A type stuff. Living inside of a fish for three days ain't got shit on an eight arm Goddess!
Even a talking snake dwarves in magnitude when you put a dude like Thor in front of him wielding a huge war hammer; now give me some of that mythology and I might even consider out of the sheer cool aspect of it.Rafal W. edytował(a) ten post dnia 05.01.09 o godzinie 14:07

To be quite honest, I consider both: a talking snake and an eight arm Goddess pretty cool, though I'd be more impressed if I could see any. Still, I guess it's not what religion or -if you prefer- the belief is about. The belief is -mostly- the way of explaining things that are beyond our comprehention. For some, it is (or was) the old man with a long beard, for others - quantum mathematics. In both cases some of the supporting theories can already be verified, some others - not yet. It's then your choice whether to BELIEVE them or not. The problem starts when one gets the strong conviction that HIS beliefs are the only right ones, but this is another story...

I can't consider myself a religious person, but this "og kush" thing sounds really tempting!

Happy New Year to all of you, guys!
Mauh!
