I think today might be Woman's Day...

I'm I alone in thinking that the concept of such a day is stark raving bonkers? A day for giving the lower half of the population a little treat? How patronising! How archaic! It's mad!

Personally I'd ban all days - Mother's Day, Father's Day, Babcia Day... you name it, I'd ban it. It's all bollocks. If you love someone, celebrate it every day. Don't pamper to the card and roses industry. And the worst culprit of all, the mother of all days, the grossest of them all: Valentine's Day. Yuk. A day especially designed to make large quantities of normal worthy people very very insecure if they didn't get a card. Horrible.

I prefer Halloween.

Steve, thanks for your best wishes... (hehehe!):)

The representatives of the uglier gender in my house would never dare to buy me a flower on "Kobieta Day" - they know too well that they would then have to consume such flowers in their salad.
Flowers and gifts are welcome on any other ordinary day, though.

Personally I like Christmas and .... all sorts of national holidays ( one is free from work and I love parades, patriotic songs and the like. Shall I be now punished for saying this?)

You're more than welcome! Merry Woman's Day to you! Long may you be female;))

Christmas is up there on my shit list. Why celebrate the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ on a day which isn't really his birthday? And why do kids have to get the latest X box on this day? And where do the January sales fit into it all? And the Lord didst shoppeth till he droppeth.

Ban the bugger, that's what I say!

Your wishes " to stay female for as long as possible" are received with gratitude, especially now with all those feminist movements all around teaching you how to become a man. Funnily enough, their "leaderesses" cannot get rid of all those female attributes such as: false nail tips (if that's the right word), make-up and skirts, to name but a few.

As for Christmas, I like it as a family holiday and it's up to you how 'commercial' you make it. Personally I keep it as simple as possible.
Obviously, there are some 'musts' : a Christmas tree, some food to survive the time when all the shops are closed, something to drink (and I don't mean only tea or coffee..)and maybe some other absolute essentials.
Sadly, I must confess that my husband's attitude to holidays is very much like yours. This, however, does not worry me at all - I just take the whole burden of all the preparations unto my weak shoulders with no complaints whatsoever.

BTW, don't you think that Haloween is an equally commercial bastard, if not more so nowadays? No personal experience in this case, though.Wendy Tweed edytował(a) ten post dnia 09.03.08 o godzinie 01:45

Errr, my Halloween comment was supposed to be slightly ironic;)) However, it's an unpretentious fun day and those who profit commercially are mainly pumpkin farmers who, I suppose, might need a little support. Takes the weight off the EU subsidies, anyway.

I don't notice this day anymore, it's just one of days in the course of the year, same as Valentine's Day> I do like celebrating the Babcia/Dziadek and Mother's Day (this one twice a year!) with friends and family, and especially with my son as, being a preschooler, he invites us to shows at the school.
Being an atheist, I don't care much for Christmas and Easter - it's a couple days off so I try to leave town when possible (Easter mainly).
Halloween's ok at least here in Poland where I usually have fun demolishing a few juicy pumpkins to make them look like Jack o'.
We celebrate the Fourth of July, Veteran's Day and St. Patrick's Day but mainly as an excuse to throw a party - and it's mainly Americans living here.
I hate the Wszystkich Swietych day and would gladly have it banned forever.

Originally the woman's day in Poland was communist regime's propaganda effort to make women labor in coal mines just like men. The first point of their manifesto was "Woman is as strong or even stronger than man". Not so noble origins. Ban it.

We have "Sweetest Day" in October. I don't remember how it comes -... maybe the second Saturday of the month. Valentine's Day II,

All the advertisments: I'm gonna be sick.

Ban it.Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 09.03.08 o godzinie 12:02

Hmmm but I love every The Days ... Mother's, Women's, Christmas and so on... why ? Because I like a celebration. Every day sometimes looks like the same. The celebration reminds us that it's time for a break or relax. I love to buy presents and packing them in a rustling paper, don't you ?. I love flowers which somebody gives me beacuse of a celebration don't you ?

Do you need an official "day" in order to celebrate? Do I need to tell you that tomorrow's Valentine's Day for you to say I love you? Does it need to be "easter" for you to spray a basket with holy water? Does it have to be xmas for you to give someone a present? Does it have to be my birthday for you to buy me a drink? ;))

You know what I mean? ;)

So you don't celebrate anything do you? Today's The Man's Day (hihii) Okay I'll not wish you anything because you don't like it. By the way ... how could you feel the uniqueness of a day when every day is on the same level ? For example my favorite celebration - the Venetian carnival mmmmmmm is it necessary or not in your opinion ? what about your birthday ? before you answer pls call your mum and ask her hahahhaha

It's so cool, I'm thinking of turning it into a massive international day off. Steve's Day. Everyone then has to buy cards and gifts and send them to everyone they know called Steve. It's gonna be BIG! ;))

or

Yeah - and we could invent an Angelina day too. We could play on words a bit and call it Jolly Day and we could all dance around and be really silly just for one day. I'd like to commercialise it by insisting everyone buys each other a very silly hat which they have to wear for the whole day:)

What we have here is a receptive language deficit.

But:

US President's Day. Love the President's, dislike the advertisments everywhere for half off furniture sales, etc., "President's Day sales." :)

Throw in another Thanksgiving or something. But President's Day?

Ban it.
