Hey, you beat me to it!
I am a great fan of Spanish wines. The Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero on the label tells you the wine will most likely be extraordinary, and worth saving for special occasions, with my favorite being Senorio de Nava wines, preferably vino tinto (red wine), but they produce extraordinary verdejos too.
It's easy to remember the way to categorize Spanish wines, as similar to France, and categorized by the Denominación de Origen (the place where they come from). The local grapes are called Tempranillo.
If you like sparkling wines, you'll definitely enjoy a glass of good cava.
The South of Spain is famous for its sherry (jerez in Spanish), my favorite being amontillado (quite light, with a nutty aftertaste) and Pedro Ximenez (be careful, can be quite strong!)

I once visited an extraordinary winery that looked more like a lab - I'll try to locate pictures and post them on my Picasa page.

I'm a whisky guy, and by no means a wine connoisseur, even though I drink lots of wine. My favourite is Zinfandel - I usually grab one from Fetzer's or Gallo (the Turning Leaf variety).

I've been told that in Italy there actually exists a counterpart of Zinfandel, called Primitivo - but I haven't tasted it yet.

There's a GL group called "Wino", and I truly admire the sophistication of those people.

sweet???... Oleg! You don't like wine because you drink sweet. Trust me. Try dry. I prefered sweet wine - I could drink 2-3 glasses - that's all. Now, when I drink dry..... hmmm... it's another world ;P

As a rule, I drink dry red wines. That's what wine means to me. My all-time fave is Spanish Rioja. The best red wine I've ever drunk was Lebanese Chateau Musar. I drank it once only and didn't have to pay ;) Israeli wines are very good, too. Terribly expensive, thou.
In the summer, I go for dry or semi-dry whites like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. The wine of choice here is Frascati Superiore which I drank on holiday in Rome and then found at a supermarket here at a very reasonable price.

I don't know, but I feel not so good after wine - esp. red wine, which is not sweet. well maybe in a month I will try a dry one ;) to a good meal

Amontillado comes between fino and oloroso, right? I've always drunk the pale fino and it's definitely my taste. What colour is amontillado?
Then there are sweet red sherries. Undrinkable for me but great for desserts.

Oleg, my advice...try Chianti Classico, this is red dry wine...delicate bouquet..this is Italian product...Tuscany region...but do not drink the whole bottle!

I like dry, red wines...also rose but only in summer time. White wines are too heavy for my stomach, but sometimes I can drink Riesling or Italian wine.
