a bit of a kick or a punch, if not too serious, can actually be quite sweet (of course if committed by a woman)

In what way would it be "sweet"?

I just thought that apart from a few nut cases, I can't imagine a woman can be that threatening, really...

As Warren mentioned before, a woman will rarely physically intimidate a man due to size and strength differences...

It's a question of respect. You don't punch or kick someone you respect. You punch and kick someone you hate.

Unless there's something I'm really missing here, I can't see anything "sweet" about being treated like a punchbag for someone else's emotional inadequacies

Well, there's only one small step from love to hate.
And it doesn't have to mean lack of respect, but strong emotions, not necessarily emotional inadequacies. And I said nothing about treating someone like a punchbag.
OK, I went too far by saying "sweet". I suppose I wanted to rock the boat a bit..

My initial image was the way a woman can facetiously punch me in the shoulder or chest (right side only please...don't want the arrhythmia, thank you very much), whereas I would never do that as a man (you could knock her all the way into next week) :)

I'm not speaking for you, of course. It's just how I took it.

That's what I meant at first, but then the discussion went different ways.

I'm sorry to be the one who shatters your sweet little world. According to my dad (20 years in the police forces, both as a uniformed officer and a plainclothesman) when women beat men up, they usually do so with fatal results, whereas men usually beat until they spot blood, and then stop. With some exceptions, of course.

In the movie "Holidy", which I watched with my students last week, there is a scene where Cameron Diaz throws a shoe at her unfaithful partner. None of my students took it as an act of violance.
I suppose this was an example of violance a woman can get away with.

No - you wrote about punching and kicking.

Is there any kind of violence a man can get away with? Throwing shoes? Cuff links?

Go to your car, roll up the windows and go somewhere and scream at the top of your lungs. Never had to do it, but I told someone else to. Case below. *

(as far as the shoe throwing by a woman, the best way to get back ather is put the shoe in the oven and turn the broiler on. That would rock her world worse than any assault on her body) :)))

Sorry. bad joke.

*I was interrupted from a quiet time with friends not long ago by a young woman who wanted me to intervene at the home of her brother, violent and bi-polar, and he was escalating against his girlfriend or vice versa there. I agreed in disgust but I told her "no B.S., Renee, I'll go, but if your brother comes at me for helping (common in those cases), he's going over his balcony." But why I thought that he was at fault and not she, nie wiem. And instaed of the thought a non violent intervention, I'm prejudiciously throwing him through the window . Maybe she was hitting him first.

I was not. I may have been spanked as a toddler for playing with an electrical outlet

haha.. lucky you! My dad just sat there and watched me... of course after saying - "You really shouldn't do that"... I failed to comply... so he sat there and watched me try to fit a screw into one of those round electrical outlets... first and the last time ever hahaha...

Talking about parents beating their children: were any of you ever beaten by your parents when you were kids?

Yup, although I believe we already had a whole thread about that here.

As you can clearly see, I'm still alive.

My grandma had this old wooden spoon... you wouldn't think that a wooden spoon to the back of your head would make a ringing sound... hahah...

I prefer my unit in a vice while being kicked in the nuts personally... I think it's cute. Nothing says love like a black eye, some missing teeth and bloody urine. It strengthens the bond between a man and a woman.

I used to live next door to this guy... picture a power lifter at about 300lbs.. no joke! Huge dude that would come out in the middle of a freezing February day in flip flops and shorts to get something from the corner store. His wife.. this tiny little woman that resembled a mouse would throw fits, take all his stuff and throw it outside into the stair case, yell scream, kick the poor chap and call him all sorts of names... at all hours of day and night. Now this guy could have easily crushed her skull with one of his hands... but instead he'd just take a beating, clean up and then go upstairs to the roof of our building and sob like a child. Especially the missing teeth. Sharing dentures is ultimate intimacy.

Too bad you can't hear me say that. My front teeth are missing and my cheek is bruised, because Violetta and I wanted to express our joy at seeing each other. Nothing like having great friends!

I don't care about the physical differences between men and women. Slapping someone is an offensive behaviour, doesn't matter from where it comes from.

Do we say: "Oh, the guy was only 1.50m and 45kgs, so it was ok of him, I didn't punch back"?

Sorry, but whoever supports that argument it means he/she missed the WHOLE point.

So, that sweet lady would get a punch from me in return unless she had a VERY GOOD reason to slap me.
Ladies should better get rid of their stereotype-y behaviours. Maybe they've seen too many old movies.

Grr. Lately I feel like I'm about to jump out and beat someone! :)ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 22.12.08 o godzinie 17:41
