Thanks for posting that.

Perhaps the interviewer himself should be asked if he'd like to pick vegetables for the minimum wage.

He gets paid far more than that, cause he is educated, I think!
The problem is that they do not really want to work, even though they would be paid better money.
It is always easier to blame others instead of doing something.
Bloody Chavs ;) (joke)

Fairly obviously no-one wants to pick vegetables if given the choice not to do so.

No-one would do it as a hobby.

I thought the programme was supposed to be on the side of the white working class.

Basically the interviewer simply went up to the most stupid people he could find and asked them leading questions.

Let's say he lost his nice well-paid media job, I could go up to him and ask whether he would like a job working in the fields for 7 GBP an hour. Would he take it? If he told me to get lost, I could then make a programme about how lazy people with degrees are.

True, sad but true.
Someone is doing that anyway.
Does it in any way diminish the persons status? Job is job, it is better paid than being a Commis Chef, but still lazy kids do not want to do that!
That chav said that he would like to be paid 7GBP/h, so why not, he got offered the job, hence should do that, but no, what he really meant is not to work and get 7GBP/h, right?

The other problem is that those kids are not willing eve to go to schools, they can not read and have no hope for better future, besides drinking on the streets.

What is the Governments attitude towards this?

In fact, English economy has risen dramatically when they opened borders to foreigners.

Lukasz

(1) I don't imagine anyone shown on the clip to be a budding Shakespeare or potential rocket scientist, but probably they can at least read.

(2) Generally speaking you don't get paid 7 GBP an hour for not working in the U.K..

(3) Economic success is the cause rather than the consequence of immigration to the U.K..

Looks interesting - wasn't allowed to watch the whole show, tho. Seems the BBC only want to cater to British-based internet users. Anyway around this?

We could dispute for hours about that. Maybe thay can read few words (like Stella, Scrumpy Jack and Ritzla) ;), but definitely can not speak proper English :)
(2) Generally speaking you don't get paid 7 GBP an hour for not working in the U.K..
Yes, but taking into consideration all other currencies that are growing into strength, it is not that sweet any more.
(3) Economic success is the cause rather than the consequence of immigration to the U.K..
Without the consequences there would be no cause, but I do not know anything about economics, so will not give my hand for it.

Jeez Warren, open your eyes, please!! He found the people outside a job centre. They are the true representatives of the proud, young white (non)working class in the UK who came there to collect their benefits. The benefits, which they get thanks to these pathetic Czech or Polish people who will pick vegs for 7pound/hr. They have probably never worked before and that's the difference between immigrants and British (non)working class who can gather 1000 in benefits for doing nothing.

The figures show that the unemployment among the British has stayed at the same level - the companies grow thanks to cheap workforce from Eastern Europe. Nobody steals jobs in the UK, the young white working class would not work anyway.

Let's say he lost his nice well-paid media job, I could go up to him and ask whether he would like a job working in the fields for 7 GBP an hour. Would he take it? If he told me to get lost, I could then make a programme about how lazy people with degrees are.

That's pathetic Warren, and you are aware of that. The presenter wouldn't have to pick vegs because he is EDUCATED. Can't you see and admit that there ARE people in the UK who ARE uneducated and abuse the system as any other nations in the whole world?
Should the presenter be coursed for showing "different" England? Different but true at the same time?
You definitely chose the wrong target of your attack, Warren. It is not the presenter that gives England a bad image, but them, the young unemployed, lazy men presented in this trailer. Sad but true.

So called CHAVS :)

Thank you Patrycja for understanding ;)

I do not feel like if I was stealing a job from English people.
My post (job) was in the newspaper, I went for an interview, scored well.
One person scored more points than me, due to be English, that I found out later.
He turned out to be a myth-man. Did not know what he was doing etc., just telling things an Interviewer wanted to hear from an Interviewee.
Eventually I got the job, even though they were in doubt that I would manage being Polish.
My job requires thorough IT knowledge (very broad) and a day-to-day customer contact over phone and via e-mail. I think I am doing a great job, and do not feel guilty at all for what I know and do.

Regards,
Łukasz

You're just providing for yourself and your family. (If you have one).

That's nothing to feel guilty about.

So why can't some English people do that, they have the advantage of being native speakers. I had to struggle, especially that majority of our customers are from Ireland and Scotland :)

Why shouldn't educated people have to pick veggies?

Is manual labour somehow beneath them?

I've done this myself.

The interviewer, (as do most interviewers), just got what he wanted.

If I was to go up to unemployed Polish people and offered them the minimum Polish wage to pick vegetables (5 pln an hour or whatever) I'm sure a lot wouldn't be interested.

If they were offered the English minimum wage (7 X more), many would change their minds.

Then again, if you were to offer English youth the chance to work for seven times the English minimum wage, 50 quid or 250 PLN an hour, I'd imagine they'd go for it.

Everything's relative.

I have no idea why you are asking me this.

A certain percentage of the English population is lazy, useless or whatever.

But the same is true of the Polish population.

Where I live there are a considerable number of drunks, beggars, unemployed people and so on.

I could ask you exactly the same question, (why don't Polish people want to work)?warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 10.03.08 o godzinie 22:39

Of course you could, and my answer would be, that not all of the Polish people have had a chance to get education, as they were working on their farms, used by communists and got old from working for "the greater good".

I don't say they shouldn't, they don't have to, because they will get a job matching their skills and qualifications.

Is manual labour somehow beneath them?

no

I've done this myself.

good for you

The interviewer, (as do most interviewers), just got what he wanted.

If I was to go up to unemployed Polish people and offered them the minimum Polish wage to pick vegetables (5 pln an hour or whatever) I'm sure a lot wouldn't be interested.

The minimum Polish wage equals two Polish doles, in the UK the minimum wage equals a dole and that's the reason why many English people will not pick the vegs, I suppose.

If they were offered the English minimum wage (7 X more), many would change their minds.

Then again, if you were to offer English youth the chance to work for seven times the English minimum wage, 50 quid or 250 PLN an hour, I'd imagine they'd go for it.

Everything's relative.

So.. it seems that the reason why these young people do not want to work is that the pound is the strongest currency in the world? Poor lads.. ;)))

True

True. We're asking the questions because the material presents ENGLISH people and your response to it is blaming the presenter for doing such a programme. That's it.

The answer to that is simple.

The idea of the 'White Working Class Season' is to represent the views of the British white working class.

The clip that was linked to represents the views of a patronising middle-class wanker.
