Hello everybody,
how to start the letter in English to somebody who is a professor?
Is Dear Professor X better than Dear Mr X.
What beginning is more common among natives? Is "Dear Mr X" arrogant or unkind?

I'll meet you halfway and would say 'Dear Professor Bergmann'. This 'Bergmann' surname is just for example:)

"Dear Prof. X" will do the trick just fine.
