I've seen personally a sponge absorbing a certain amount of tomato sauce from a plate used for spaghetti. According to your fancy biological theory, the proteins are still on that plate.
How do I remove them?

Try understanding real sentences.

We are using words and sentences to communicate in a web forum. We're not using our facial expressions and voice changes that we use in real life, or transdantal meditation to communicate.
I don't read brains when trying to understand a text.
Also, I pretty much get how a sponge works.I think you think you know what happens when a liquid (with additional substances) goes into pores (air holes) present in sponges.

I think that emoticons underestimate intelligence. In real life I do not wink everytime I joke and my facial expressions, are rather enigmatic.

Understanding a joke is not only a matter of sense of humor and intelligence, but the situation, mood, time of day, and all kinds of crap.
A joke should make sense. A joke should be able to relate to subjects according to the realities of humankind, and the pysical truths that humans can understand.
If you'd simply say:
"Let's eat sponges then", and leave the subject there, I could understand it as a joke.
Maybe I could understand it as a message. Like:
"Should we eat anything with nutrients".
But you have added the detail of: "absorbtion".
Which was longer than needed and enough long to make me point out the wrong knowledge.
Next time, leave the joke pure, as much as possible. Details disturbs the strength of the joke.
I thought the discussed object was a funny thing. I don't anymore so I will stop pushing the idea..It IS funny.
But when somebody asks whether if you have been joking or not, that might mean that somebody wants to know whether you have been serious or not.
If you continue: "I know how sponge works", that might be a reason for me to scratch the subject again. Because I am picky and old enough to be stubborn like hell.

Now one of the moderators will say that I am OT and advice to start a new thread titled as: "Sponge Bob and his amino acids".
