Temat: Support Howard Webb:
Please sign:I believe the hate campaign against the referee, Howard Webb, who officiated in the game Austria v Poland, to be exaggerated and unfair, and damaging to Poland's reputation abroad.

Even if the referee made a mistake, this doesn't justify any kind of insult to his private life. That doesn't justify a hate campaign.
And the thing happening, is not good for Poland. It shouldn't be attached to the character of whole Polish nation. This is not you, or I want to believe this is not you.

Wendy, are you saying that what we're seeing about the poor referee is normal? Have you seen any products of this frustration on the web, for example? And the scale of it?

Thanks, Lidia. It's disgraceful really, to say the very very least. Couldn't finish reading it.
But as I said, it's definitely something for the police to deal with immediately. People like you or I would never have produced anything like that.
The level of hatred has reached something beyond human comprehension.

Wendy :) it's alright :)
We've already covered it here a little
http://www.goldenline.pl/forum/anglosphere/387470
and in another thread, too.
(I'm no football fan so I should be quiet but I use nasza-klasa a lot and this is where I'd realized the massive scale of the phenomenon)
The above linked sites are only examples, I'm not digging into them any more and I feel shame.

Warren, I think we Poles went mad for one reason only. IMHO, nobody would have questioned his decision if it had been taken at a different stage of the match. Someone said the referee noticed similar cases earlier in the match so why didn't he order a penalty kick then? You just don't do such things in the very last minute. Well, unless it is something very serious , of course.Did that what Lewandowski did really look like any major offence at this stage of the game?
You must agree that if that happened to England you would be
equally furious.
I do not support the anti-referee campaign - what for? That would be below me.

One more thing. Experts say (unfortunately I didn't watch the match as I suffered from a horrible attack of migraine for a few days) trying to shut Polish mouths up that if the referee had really been "anti-Polish",he could have refused to approve of the only goal they won. The question arises in this connection - which of his decisions taken during the match were right and which were only 50% right? At such an advanced stage the decisions should be only right, shouldn't they? Too much money and too many football lovers (as well as one-time fans) are involved.
