Temat: sticking to the rules

Do you always live sticking to the rules?

When do you make exceptions?
Is it worth it? How do you justify it?

Temat: sticking to the rules

I'm very honest, but only with people who've been honest with me.

Once someone has gone over certain limits, well all's fair in love and war.

I believe in being a good friend and a bitter enemy.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 20.08.08 o godzinie 11:53

Warren,

the same as me!!
So there's a two of us believing in the same rule ;)

Peace

Who sets your limits?
What are they based on?

Are they flexible at all?

I set my own rules, at least that's what I choose to believe.

I'm pretty sure my 'moral' standards have been imprinted in me by the environment I grew up in, by my folks, some of them by the 'culture' a.k.a. religion.

I too bend my limits if/when possible/necessary, but only if I'm the only one directly influenced by them. I try to treat all people in the same way. Whether I succeed is a whole other story...

I think I'm quite strict about my rules and I find it discomforting that sometimes I (have to) bend them. I usually regret it but can you always live by the book?

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before. I go by a saying by Bruce Lee – be like water. Everything that I do is shaped by the current flow of my life, whatever obstacles - physical or metaphysical I encounter; usually cause me to adapt my ways. Anyone can and most likely will in their lifetime break those most deeply rooted commitments to oneself, it’s just a matter of how much flexibility we allow ourselves. I think rules and boundaries are good, yet I do enjoy crossing over from time to time to see things from a different perspective. I think the older we get, the easier it is to fall into our comfort zones and use those set boundaries as our personal buffer zones, sort of safety nets.

Limits I don't believe in. We are only limited by our own personal beliefs, so it works both ways - if you believe that you can do it... you most likely can.

They are as flexible as life itself. Life is a never ending current, it never slows down, it never stops. What happens when you throw a stick into a river? If it’s deep and safe it will stay on top and float smoothly, but once it gets to shallow grounds with obstacles in it’s way, it will get jammed, stuck and possibly broken. It works the same way with us.

I'd imagine for almost all women all's fair in love.

Of course women have their limits etc.

But when they meet 'the one' all this gets forgotten.

Doesn't it?

Personally, I've never had the slightest difficulty in sticking to rules I have no inclination to break.
