I hate everything from heavy metal, hard rock (too hard rock), rave/any dance music without a melody in it.

Britpop. I wonder whether anyone is able to tell any difference between all these pseudo-rock bands. As you can imagine, I'm surrounded with it 24h/a day and believe me, it really makes you sick when you find all the stations play the same music all the time - except for "Smooth radio", which, on the other hand, plays only "love music classics" (hard to say what's worse, really).Anyway, there's one band from Liverpool, called The Wombats, which is therefore, very popular with the local stations - I can't tell the difference between them or any other Britpop band so whenever we hear any of them playing we just say it's The Wombats. We don't even use the term "Britpop", anymore. We use "The Wombats", instead.
Anyone interested in a sample? Anyone desperate to ruin their day? There you go:

But I don't feel this way for the other bands/artists or styles as much as I do for R.E.M.

My neighbours' son plays it at home with the windows wide open - do you think it's the same case - to drown out the emptiness in his head? Having looked at him and some of his friends I think you are right.

oh no, I guess I'm totally different than the post's originator.a definite YES for rock INCLUDING old U2 (ok, actually I love them until "Pop", apart from that it's pure music for the masses, which means - MONEY! which I find odd as Bono is really engaged in all that political stuff and he's trying to improve/or at least have some impact on the 3rd world people's lives but then maybe that's the reason they are still touring - "you don't find money on the sidewalk" ;-) )
I hate all that Britney/ATB/Pussy cat dolls crap.
Anything that exludes REAL MUSIC* gets on my nerves.
*in the sense of a band, which uses guitars, drums, keyboards, etc. AND a lead singer WITHOUT the need of improving the voice via some electronic devises and WITHOUT playing "playback".
