There's one about spelling and pronunciation. I don't knnow where it comes from. It says that since the gh in "enough" is pronounced as an f, the o in "women" is pronounced as a short i, the ti in "action" is pronounced as sh, then "fish" ought to be spelled ghoti. :)

I think there's no one single (hehe) language on Earth which doesn't have any contradictions.Languages are man-made, man is the outcome of the nature, nature has contradictions, hence the language.

Esperanto? Don't get me started! For one, it still has an irregular verb. Alright, it's only got one, as opposed to roughly 90% of all English verbs, but the fact that just one word is irregular is like five minutes before the unveiling of Esperanto, they said,"It's perfect, everyhing is just, oh, wait, what about the verb 'to be'?""What!? No time now, we have the conference room booked 'til three"
"Forget it, let's just roll it out, and we'll do an 'Esperanto 2.0 later, or something."
There are actually several constructed languages knocking about, and they all proclaim their superiority over natural languages as more diplomatic choices. Their speakers argue that, if all delegates are using a neutral language free of cultural and historical weight, then we can truly live in peace and harmony.
The problem is, though, that if you suggest to a speaker of, say, Interlingua, that this is why everybody should speak Esperanto, they scoff and say 'Oh, not that rubbish! Nobody could put a coherent sentence together in that old thing'

Stan K.:According to who? You?ilter K.:Yes, there is: Esperanto, manmade language.
I think there's no one single (hehe) language on Earth which doesn't have any contradictions...
Has anyone asked the opinions of a guy who uses Uralic/Altaic languages? What about the tribes in Africa?
It might be a heaven-sent language to you, but have you considered the other people living on the other side of the World?

Stan, has anyone told you that your writing can be perceived as an aggressive one before? After reading your last message, I've felt like sayin "Dude, chill".
That question was supposed to be a simple one, but maybe the way I quoted was confusing.
In your last message, there were claims.
Who can use Esperanto, why it's great, yada yada...
My question was mostly based on your last message. No thesis in here. I don't have and don't write thesis. I will shortly go to my garden for my daily sunbath.
Just trying to be kind, I will try to clear my message/question a bit:
Who says Esperanto is the "ideal" language (?) (and/or) has no contradictions?
The Europeans, and native English speakers, I presume?
I can talk about my native language, and tell you that Esperanto has holes in the size of my arm, from my own perspective. Polish and English might have contradictions, but the way I -as a Turkish native- see it, can be, and IS different. Same goes for Esperanto.
Anyway, what matters most is:
1- I said: "on Earth", you switched it into: "EU".
2- (It seems like) You have a thesis, I don't.
3- It seems like you and me are trying to communicate in different languages, but not grammatically.ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.07.09 o godzinie 13:55

Stan K.:My name is Ilter.
Iter, what I don't like in any discussions is talking about person, not about topic.
You've commented twice, each time with less or more aggresive way attacking AUTHOR expressing your point of view on topic.Sorry for that feeling.
A question is a question though.
You DID ignore my question.
I'm not aggressive.
And you see result - I am responding the same way. Note: topic became blurred, and you introduced personal comments. There's nothing personal in my initial question.
Let me repeat my question: is that what you want? No.
Shall I make it in bold letters too?
(Now, this is personal)
And my question is: why haven't you elaborated about mentioned languages?Which languages?
It can be more interesting to learn something new, than participate in another tasteless argument. You're right.
Therefore, please focus on topic and supply as much as you know (or find) about other languages in the name of sharing knowledge.I'm focused like never before.
Thank you on behalf of other users sharing my point of view.Er, there's nothing to add, other than the things I wrote in my 2 or 3 messages.
Please ask me some questions if I wasn't clear enough.
You wrote (sorry for making it personal, but I can't find any other 2nd person singular in English) that the Esperanto doesn't have contradictions.
I wrote (sorry for making it personal, but I can't find any 1st person singular in English) that I don't find Esperanto as a perfect language without contradictions. And somehow I feel I'm not alone.
Tell me, how/what shall I write to stay in topic, in your terms, because I'm having difficulties to follow you (again, sorry for making it personal).
Well now...

Stan, from my point of view, as a person who is Turkish native, Esperanto is far from being perfect. It is not easy to learn it too, unless you speak at least 1 of the Euorpean languages. Now, I hope I am clearer. I'm sorry if you still find this point of view as an attack to your personality. It has nothing to do with you. I'm not here to clash with you. I'm trying to share my opinion.ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.07.09 o godzinie 17:18

In order to calrify my "according to who?" question, I've made a little Googling and I've landed on this page:http://claudepiron.free.fr/articlesenanglais/westernla...
It says somewhere:
...Most Westerners do not imagine that some languages are so consistent that irregular verbs, exceptions in plural formation or unclear derivation are, for their speakers, unthinkable, something like the aberrant product of a neurotic mind...
This quote was in favor of Esperanto, btw. But my point is not a "which one is better, which beats who" type of thing.
My point is, Esperanto might look much less complicated -because apparently it is, compared to some Indo-western language speakers-, but it is NOT, for the whole World. Claiming it is, well, would be just a claim anyway. An Arab would have a lot of troubles learning Esperanto.
Personally I wouldn't have troubles with it, I guess, but to me Turkish is less complicated and it has less exceptions phonetically. According to Turkish phonetics, two consotnants should be seperated with a vowel. From my point of view, it's almost like learning Italian or any other foreign language. It might be easier to learn, but still. I understand nothing when I hear esperanto. Just like I understand nothing when I hear Arabic.
I hope this explains that.
I wasn't after a cockfight type of discussion.ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.07.09 o godzinie 18:53

instead of talk again about feelings of other person (s), it will be more interesting to read about:
1.
Contradictions in Esperanto - examples
2.Er, Turkish is easier to learn and speak, but I don't mean it is is superior to English. Languages are part of cultures, and I like them the way they are.
Other languages superior to English in the same way as above
What I initially wrote was (it might have been undermined during the discussion) : "I think there's no [...] language on Earth which doesn't have ANY contradictions.

Stan K.:I am deeply sorry for that.
As you stilll do not see, why I prefer to learn something on topic instead of on author of expressed opinion, just have a look at examples from this page:
Now I got it.
You want to learn something from this thread. I see.
... You tolerate own mispelling - see your writing on the same page - and we all understand it can happen. Nevertheless you immediately point to my misspelling.Sorry for that too. It looked as if you got my name wrong, after seeing the capital "I", not followed by an "l"... I didn't mean to make it a big deal. But probably you wouldn't like to call me that way in real life, would you?

Stan, I have a personal request from you...When you are quoting another article, please just give the link only, if available. Posting the whole article/text from an already available source is not a very good idea for different reasons.
Besides, that way, I could differentiate between your thoughts and scientific findins better - because some of your posts in this thread are too long to read in a 500 (or so) pixel-wide area with a white background.ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 05.07.09 o godzinie 15:50
