Not sure. I mean, if it's been recently extinct, and was indigenous to a region, maybe. I just hope they realize dinosaurs had a reason to die out, and the reason was evolution. No room for dinosaurs nowadays.

I'd agree with Tatiana, but seeing how humanity's expansiveness and on-going environment degradation kills different species I have to say it's a good way to save some species. I mean what would this world be without tigers for example?

"No room for dinosaurs", or "no room to both human and dinosaurs in our sweet and comfy civilization"? hehe
Well, I would be a happy dinosaur if I were in places like Rio... a lot of chicks to eat. Yum.

I don't see the point, really. The thing is that the poor fellow probably had a good reason to die.

No point in cloning a long-dead species if we can't reproduce their original habitat.

Let's say that this goat feeding habits included mainly some plants or fruits that are now very uncommon or even impossible to find. How the hell is it supposed to survive?

That concerns all of the animal species in general, let's forget about the silly ibex and move on to the more dangerous regions of our planet - like the vast jungles etc. I'm sure that the predators that evolved after the given breed "X" died out are nowadays way more capable when it comes to hunting and killing - they've had years of experience and it's their turf now. The animals of the past won't be able protect themselves, just because they're not used to today's world.

Not to mention that if they'd somehow adapted, they'd probably create lots of destruction to the already existing ecosystem, therefore baning other species to extinction.

It's quite cool when it comes to the "wow, we'll be riding them dinosaurs in no time!" factor, but in the end it's not worth it.

I think saying 'it's not worth it' is not for us to be spoken tbh.
Who knows? It might go both ways; pros and cons every action has such.

On the other hand I do understand both views :)

I didn't mean to sound ignorant, seriously. Hey, I'm all for it if it brings me one step close to immortality one day, haha! :)

Still, with things like that I always wonder whether the people responsible consider all course of action or are they more like "fuck it, we went so far with this project, there's no stopping now". I'm more afraid of the consequences in the long run, I'll be probably dead by the time that the eggheads will notice any negative aspects of the changes and so perhaps I shouldn't even care, but...

I'm all up for scientific (and maybe more importantly, medical) progress, but I don't really feel that saving extinct species is justified. Endangered ones - ok, the ibex was hunted down by mankind - that makes it somewhat more plausible. I'd hate to see wolves go one day, someone probably feels the same about goats. As long as they're not aroused by them, hey - whatever. :)

But the Dodo birds? Do we really need 50 lb pigeons? We fucked up their habitat - so again, it's our fault, that's true. Then again, by bringing them back we'd surely wipe out other, smaller species. There are two sides to every coin. There's always the prey and the predator. I do hope that someone catches my drift - nothing goes unnoticed in the nature and sooner or later something WILL change. Thing is... No one can say if it'll be a change for better.

Let's go further ahead: What's the point of resurrecting mammoths? Dinosaurs?? I sincerely hope that the author of the article just went too far with his imagination and that no one is really thinking about it seriously. Because that's actually retarded. In my humble opinion that is - then again, I'm just a low class whipping boy and not a scientist. :)

You are going extreme with the mammoths etc...

but as I said.. I do catch your drift :)

resurrecting long gone species is a nono option for me as well but saving endangered... hell yeah.

mankind is responsible for that - lets be responsible enough to save the little guys too!

(mosquitos etc not included :D )

They were mentioned a couple of times in the article. I raged. Hard. ;)
