OK - "social racist".

I really don`t feel sorry and I don`t support all those "poor" people who have money for drinking alcohol and smoking 30 cigarettes a day but then they keep begging for money and enjoying free soups. Let them get to work like us all. Poverty is their choice and I don`t think they should be supported in other ways than offering them a job. Because of such views I was called a social racist once.

Please note, I don`t mean people who are poor because of other reasons than their laziness.

Violetta, misusing vocabulary in a foreign language is totally understandable but you need to know that there are some words you have to be careful about using.
The word 'racist' has nothing to do with your nasty prejudices about poor people. It is about race.
Come here and tell my Asian friends that you consider yourself a "social racist" and you will get a load of shit. And you would totally deserve it.

I`ll remember that. It`s what I was called not what I`d like to call
myself. Probably that`s why the word "social" was added to it and
that`s why I`ve put inverted commas.

The word is misused both in English and in Polish.

My prejudice is not against poor people, which I`ve already mentioned.

The hatred towards foreigners thread has already been discussed and

'pretentious' might even mean 'ambitious'.
But I think, Steve Jones wanted to emphasize the definition as: "putting on a false appearance", in this thread.

Presumably, this "putting on a false appearance" can be either intentionally, or unintentionally.

What I think is, being 'pretentious' has different levels:
It is very easy to spot a d*ckhead or an arrogant b*tch, but the rest can be accepted as "normal people with dreams/delusions about their real personalities".

We'd like to be like someone but we couldn't "made it there" yet. And that's pretty normal.

I think everyone calling themselves specialist/ka is very pretentious.
If anyone on this forum has done that and thinks I'm getting at them - I definitely am not - there just seems to be a craze for it at the moment and perhaps it's expected.
But really - you see people aged 21 describing themselves as specialists - it's funny.

Two reasons for that:

1. There are one- or two-year long training courses which give them the title of a "specialist" in a specific area.

2. Polish employment market is crazy. Many employers expect the candidates to be 20, with at least B.A. degree and 2 years` experience. So specialists. And THIS is funny, not the candidates` approach.
