As a successful Premiership side, Pompey were, of course, expected to win.

But it is only in the past couple of years that they have established themselves as such.

The whole of my life they have won precisely nothing.

I'm not counting my chickens (before they're hatched btw).

Getting to the final is an achievement in itself, especially as it involved beating Man U away, (the first time in half a century).

The unpredictability of football can be shown by the fact that in the course of 90 minutes, Pompey went from being 25/1 to odds-on favourites.

I'm getting angry with anyone who tells me we're sure to win the final. Going there with an attitude like that would be a recipe for humiliating failure.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 06.04.08 o godzinie 11:08

Though perhaps I should't intentionally mix up idioms in case I teach people bad (not to say embarassing) habits.

You are absolutely right not to be too laid back about it. By definition a Premiership mid-table v Championship final means that a lot of favourites for individual games have lost out along the way.
