Temat: Pet Corner

Dogs, cats, parrots, canaries, fishes, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, farrets, etc... Pets have become an important part of our households and private lives. So, it's high time we talked and showed off a bit with our little companions :) Stories and pictures are welcome!

I'll take the liberty to start with Gustaw, my guinea pig, celebrating his 5th birthday today. As you can see, his hyper-sensitive nose and greedy tiny teeth won't let any plant waste - even the lavender :)

I used to have a dog a long time ago, and since then it's always been cats.

my parents live in a high block of flats (8 floor)
one day they noticed pigeons building a 'nest'
after some time they ended up with a pigeon family
(the birds eventually died but no, we didn't have a pigeon soup!)

That's sweet! I love watching birds coping with nest building, food foraging, etc. Swallows are my absolute favourites. I wish I had a swallow nest on my balcony some day...

Tequila the cat. 8 years old, and I got her from my students. She tends to follow those who declare their hate for cats.

She also sheds like crazy, all year long, but it seems to have no impact on the quality of her fur whatsoever. And she sleeps in my bed, crawling in there at night, scaring the shit out of me. This is my friends' cat that once I hosted. My favorite ginger. Tokyo is his name.

And this Mel, a stubborn cat of my flatmate's. We hated each other for the whole three years. (The flatmate was ok).
One of the rare occassions when he allowed me to touch him (3 seconds). I like the pic, looks so innocent if you haven't met Mel...

My cat's name is Guinness, sometimes Genius, always Guinea. She's on the small side and she's all black with green eyes. Her favorite pastime is waiting till we are all in bed, then dragging out some random hat, sock, or baby t-shirt into the middle of the floor and ..MEEEEOOWWW at the top of her lungs. She's really sweet and gentle. She's never scratched or bitten anyone except Ralf her whole life. :P She's almost 7 and still playful. If all goes well with inoculations and paperwork, she will be migrating with us to Poland. I don't think I have a pic of her on my computer.

If you want a friend go and buy a rat. They are more intelligent than dogs, give much more of a f*k than cats, and are more portable.
Once in winter my rat tried to steal my blanket, when I was reading. He got confused when he realised he can't shove a part of it into the cage, so he came back to me. That's the late Phillips on the photo.

Also turtles rule: They don't give a shit about the owner, but it's fun to watch them. Also I know they care for their home, coz once one got lost and came back after two days, looking... well... like he doesn't give a shit. The ones on the photo I have for the last 18? years (mind the 'f* off' look).
