I'm surprised to hear that. He is often said to have started pursuing an academic career but quit it for business:

He started on UW but he got Ph.D later on KUL. Philosophy it's his hobby.

One can be an educated fool. As for me, Palikot obviously tries hard to be a "cool guy" - too hard. He is playing that "enfant terrible" role too, which does make him popular, but I doubt it brings any political support to either him or PO.

I would'nt be so sure, I think if you see past his scheduled preformances you see quite an inteligent man, and thats where he gets a lot of his supporters.
