Jan Vermeer van Delft - Woman reading a letter

What letter is she reading? From whom? A love letter? One could think so because of the apples on the bed (Eve's sin).
Why is the window wide open? Why is she facing it?
The painting is full of mystery for me.

A lovely lady writing a letter to someone. Wish I could see what's in it? I like colours and the happy face of the woman.

I think this is the best painting by Jacques-Louis David. The Death of Marat. Stabbed while taking a cold bath (suffered from some skin problems and wanted to find some comfort from itching).
The letter must contain some unfinished important message.
I think I must read more about Marat's role in politics of that time. :(

Adam and Rafał should like this painting. There is a scarf(presumably sprinkled with good perfume) for Adam and Tamara's self-portrait for Rafał. This elegant, self-confident, modern woman reminds me of Scott Fitzgerald's and Agatha Christie's worlds.

A friend of mine has a fine reproduction of it splashed out on the wall of his living room. It looks so powerful. I love the way she curves lips.
And F. S. Fitzgerald - that's another of my favourites - un homme epuise...

The Caresses by Fernand Khnoppf - a Belgian symbolist.
It's been always on my mind since I first saw it a few years back in the Royal Museum in Brussels.

Steve, how about Toulouse-Lautrec's 'The Kiss'? :)
These are the colours I would associate with love and kissing.
