A colleague! :)

Some sales guy would bring the local paper. I had maybe 150 customers on my route. I folded them, wrapped them with a rubber band (saved the extra rubber bands), stuffed them into bags. I remember how the bags cut into my bony shoulders - probably 6'3" 150 pounds then, if that :) Off into the cold winter night, man. At the ends of the weeks you had to go door to door "Collect!, you'd answer when they asked, hope they paid you. You had to "eat" the difference at the newspaper itself. Put some in the bank drop some in dad's wallet when he was asleep, and go to buy some pop tarts. "loved me them poptarts." :)

Maria - that is OK if you do it with pleasure and for fun. But I'm sad hearing that children have to work.

C'mon - sorry to say but this is a Polish attitude and a completely wrong one. In much more developed countries children do work and this allows them first of all to learn proper attitude and have some money.
It has nothing to do with loosing their childhood while at the same time they learn good things. And we are not talking about working 8 hours a day and we are not talking about China.
In most of the cases it's an hour or two daily. And that's it. The rest is left for fun.Maria B. edytował(a) ten post dnia 10.02.08 o godzinie 21:04

You were lucky to be carrying bags and measuring 6'3". I was probably about 5'5" (only about 5'8" now - but that should be put in the context that many guys exaggerate about their height).

First REAL job - helping out, aunt's drugstore - 15. The extra money bought me teenage stuff like pizzas, clothes, but most importantly - books.
She was the first one in my city to introduce imported cosmetics and I just loved working there.

Not only this but you meet nice people... So proud father will show you his daughter working (actually having a break). She quit now but was sort of a professional as a teenager... ;)
