a) sights

Nikiszowiec
WPKiW (the park)
the city center, for its great architecture
b) culture
Depending on what you like.
c) shopping

As above.
d) food

Tatiana. And "U pedałów". Złoty Osioł. If in the park, either the Zielona Dolina for pizza or the fish restaurant.
e) other 'must do' things (if any).
Planetarium.

That would largely depend on who it might be though.

I'm interesting from your point of view: what would you do if you were a tourist in your place?

There aren't too many things to do or see here, unless post-industrial stuff interests you. There's a few things to do, but not that much. You could squeeze it in a day or two and then hang out at the mall I guess.

Oh brilliant - I dont think Swindon has ever had a tourist before.
a) sights

That's easy. We have a brilliant roundabout. So bring a car.

Obrazek

b) culture

Never noticed any but Oxford is quite near.
c) shopping

Shopping is just above incest in my list of things to do in my free time, unless you count the Co-op.
d) food

The Co-op again. It's got good scotch eggs. Somebody once waved a knife in my face nearby, so make sure you have lots of scotch eggs to hurl at anyone that looks shifty.
e) other 'must do' things (if any).

Leave (I forgot to to do this)

a) sights

The Cathedral, and the main street on a Saturday night if the guest likes nightclubs where 19 year old welders fight and vomit. Or the prostitutes on Argos Corner.

b) culture

Use the internet instead.

c) shopping

Everything a pound.

d) food

The best restaurant is called 'Wolski's' which is a damning indictment. Otherwise kebabs.

e) other 'must do' things (if any).

There's always cottaging in the park.

Please consider various price ranges. ;)

Cheap.

Magda, that's not what I meant! I meant your special places, the Internet provides way too much info, I'd like to know what you would consider interesting. And the more off the beaten track, the better!

Oh, I saw Keith yesterday. I let him see my office bathroom, a classroom, and we dared to explore a nearby kawiarenka. I even let him glance at me laptop! It was thrilling to have a visitor!

I've stayed at home or the office for the past two years, but if you are ever in my flat or my office in Krakow, I hope my guide serves you well:
a) sights
Our bedroom is a wonderful mixture of blues and whites. On certain days, the bedclothes are a blue-white check, which really creates some breathtaking scenery, and makes me want to jump into my pyjamas and get horizontal! In our office, Aneta from the office next door is in her mid-twenties, tall and athletic, with beautiful hair. When she turns her head quickly, or there is a light breeze, she really creates some breathtaking scenery, and makes me want to jump into my pyjamas and get horizontal!
b) culture
In 1999, I read a very good book, about the future. I can't remember who wrote it, but it has robots in it. I still have it, should any avid Sci-Fi fans have free time. Alternately, they could look at our copy of Gustav Klimt's Der Kuss (my wife's), or our poster of Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry (mine).
c) shopping
Across the road from us there is a Tesco, which, as well as having food AND drink, sells things like disposeable barbecue trays, flip-flops and tampons. Something for everyone here (the shop does close at 8 on a Sunday, so you may need to plan your trip) At the office, the Coke machine in the lobby sells cans of Coke, Sprite, Fanta and Cherry Coke for an unbelieveable 1.60!!!
d) food
The Barek in our office block (called "Barek"), does every style of cuisine imagineable, from Pierogi to Barszcz. For the more adventurous, you can get steak with mushrooms and chips, which tastes like pierogi anyway. Generally, we bring sandwiches.
As we have three kids at home, you can feel free to sample one of the many kinds of juice, fruit tea, yoghurt and cereals we have. As we have three kids at home, we also have a wide range of vodkas, beer and whiskey close at hand. Happy Hour is when the kids all go to sleep. (from 21:00 -times may vary, check if Sean had any chocolate in the last hour or two before he goes to bed, and if James looks like he's going to puke for the sake of it!)
e) other 'must do' things (if any).
Our bathroom is quite nice, and worth a visit(No reading!), and in the office, I recommend a trip to the neighbouring office when there is a nice breeze!

So there it is. Quite obvious why I've rejected the boring sights and sounds of Krakow. Coming to my house or office? See you there ;-)

No, that wouldn't be comfortable at all, the trousers would be too long, and the waist would be too thin, and the top would just, ...

...oh, right.

Szczecin:

Sights:

I once met a German in a cafe who became a very good friend of mine. The first thing he told me was:

"I came to Szczecin to see the sights then discovered there weren't any."

Culture

In Szczecin?

An oxymoron.

Shopping

Ah! Galaxy.

Where most of Szczecin's inhabitants spend their weekends.

Food:

Bar Mleczny 'Turysta' is generally regarded as the apex of Szczecin's gastronomic excellence.

Other must do things:

Goleniów Airport can take you to a number of European destinations including Ireland, England and Norway.

Trouble is, it isn't really in Szczecin.

The railway station is quite handy for taking you to other Polish cities such as Poznań, Gdańsk and Wroclaw.

I haven't really done such a good job of marketing Szczecin, but I'm quite happy to advertise the Isle of Wight.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 11.07.08 o godzinie 23:35

Please do. I also feel I'd make a better job of advertising Ldn, though this would be hardly difficult. I still have some rough diamonds of Olsztyn up my sleeve. Perhaps I'll do it tomorrow (time for bed now). Nite!

Ok, Let's do Manchester.. haven't lived there for a bloody long time, but hey...

1. Sights:

Architecturally, you'll be treated to gems such as the Manchester Central Library:
Obrazek

or just a short ride out of town to the Peak District:
Obrazek

2. Culture:

Pop culture: many bands have come out of this city, including Joy Division, the greatest band of all time:
Obrazek

Football:
Obrazek

3. Shopping: was famous for its monstrous Arndale Centre until the IRA did the city a favour by blowing it up....
Obrazek
&usg=AFQjCNHYqOo-gVFXNgjV7BQLeehS_vdslQ" alt="Obrazek" class="autolinked" />

4. Food: it's gotta be the classic greasy spoon, The Station Chippy...
Obrazek

5. Other things... Well, Manchester was home to the industrial revolution. So, everything you see around you now... it's down to what happened in this city. It changed the world forever. And the Manchester Museum of Science and Technology is a great place to learn about it...

Don't think the Isle of Wight could challenge Manchester, but I'll give it a go.

We need some new threads btw.

Or the revival of some oldies.
