So, I have some questions:
Isn’t Poland part of the EU, or have I been dreaming? What do you think would happen if this was an assault on … gee, I don’t know the German, French or the British Prime minister?

Where exactly do we stand in terms of EU relations when a member of the cabinet of one of the countries gets attacked and there is no outcry from any other members of this so called European Family?Rafal W. edytował(a) ten post dnia 25.11.08 o godzinie 14:58

I kind of think it is not the problem between EU and Poland but rather EU - Kaczyński.

I think people got tired of him, at least I did.

Still, it is unbelievable that such a situation and comments or rather no reaction occurs.
As far as I know though, "nobody was shot or hurt", which were the replies of opposite party in PL so "what's the problem" - says Miller.
I really don't know what to tell you.
If EU acts as president's enemy in Sejm do, then definitely something is wrong..

Well… any member of any nation belonging to the EU is by default a member of the EU… or am I wrong? It should not matter who this person is… not in the least bit! This is pretty fucked up if you ask me. So what that nobody got hurt, it was a deliberate act of violence against a member of the EU… now this member happens to be the representative of Poland. It should not matter how people feel about him, nor should it matter how fucking daft the guy is. What matters are the fundamental facts – possible presidential assassination! Now if this is going to go unnoticed or rather unmentioned by the other members of the EU, what degree of offense would have to be committed against the Polish government officials in order to provoke a reaction?

The problem is Rafał, that the ruling government is portraying this, and I believe rightly so, as a provocation by the Georgians. Read the details, this little trip off course was not consulted with the Polish 'Secret Service' (BOR), the presidents were sitting in one car which is agianst all safety regulations etc.

Second of all, there is NO EVIDENCE that these were Russian soldiers, nobody saw them, they heard 'distant' shots. The cars took no fire and no damage.

This is a provocation by the incapable Georgian president whose trying to divert attention form his internal problems. Its a PR stunt -

Basically, to me its a mystification and I think the EU sees it this way as well - another try, by Georgia to get the EU involved agianst Russia.

Obviously, a LACK of reaction by the EU officials is worrying, but then again, the Polish government is still making inquiries in to the matter and have made no official statement on this. How can the EU condemn Russia or any other government, if the victims government hasn’t made any statements of that sort.

PLUS as Magda put it, I think the EU prefers to work with the ruling party government then with the President.

This is exactly what I mean – I do agree that details are sketchy to say the least, they really don’t add up very well… but, it doesn’t change the fact that if this would have happened to any other member of the EU gov’t, there would have been a serious investigation.
Given Russia’s recent history and their interior re-design, I don’t think we can afford a benefit of the doubt simply because our own representatives are incompetent and looked upon as clowns.
