The official reason was to protect Poland. Since both Britain and France had treaty obligations to aid Poland, they declared war upon Germany two days after Germany had invaded Poland."
Call me old fashion, but my understanding of war is, well... war, Sitzkrieg is a bit of a... I'd say something of a strategy that didn't quite lived up to the promise. Same goes for France. I do understand - England had a very small army and was not ready for a full out war... but standing at the Maginot Line staring at the enemy with two armies and waving fists around and dropping flyers didn't help much.
Same happened in 1944 when allies, let nazis kill over 200 000 citizens of Warsaw in 63 days, just to make Stalin a happy camper.
It's the history game you see. Like I said. No one's a winner. It's just a game. Full of maybe's and should/ would have's.
Let's just say that anyone can look at anything that happened and add their own colouring. Where's the truth? When does your perspective meet what actually happened? Do we know what actually happened. Do we know why it happened? These are more interesting questions. Questions with no answers.
