I'm attending a fantastic training session on trance/ hypnosis. In a moment I'll be leading the group into a hypnotic state....

Has anyone had any experience of hypnosis, good or not so good?

Some people don't believe it exists or that they could be lead into a trance.

Do you believe it can be beneficial to you?

Can anyone perform hypnosis or would like to do so?

That sounds interesting. I was reading some Milton Erickson who believed that were always in one degree of trance or another.

Self hynosis has been very beneficial to me in my athletics but I have not been able yet (haven't tried) to apply it to other parts of life.

I'll say how I do it later. Gotta go.

It's real, of course...not magical or "mystical." Of course it works, and for some people works well.

What a skill to have. It would not be easy to attain. I think impressive to learn it.
Can anyone perform hypnosis or would like to do so?

P.S. I was a traditionalist. I used to think a friend and colleague went off the deep end when he started to prescribe aroma therapy to burn patients, especially since he's a pediatric neurologist...pfft.

Then I smelled something that makes me nauseous (sandalwood insence someone was burning). I thought "well..."

As for me I don't belive in it one bit. Tried but all it did was give me a dire need to drink some coffee and that was a third coffee that day, mind you! On three separate occasions I've taken part in hypnosis - twice in a group setting and once in a one on one. All three times it was a complete failure when it came to my person. Two of the group sessions worked out just fine for others however. I think that it's a very interesting thing and I'd love to actually have it work.

@ Jon, I think we live in more than one plain of existence and with hypnosis or different stages of awareness we "peal the onion" so to speak and engage our alter beings... I may be wrong haha..

From what I've read on hypnosis, most people are 'suggestible', but a small percentage aren't.

A guy I know in New Zealand says exactly the same as you. He does some sort of exercise called 'rising through the planes'. Sounds interesting.

This is kind of a lead-in into that....

I think it's always a good idea first to see how this might actually work... So, I thought I'd put a few links here to some cool hypnosis demos...

One of the most entertaining experts in the "mind tricks" field recently is Derren Brown. In this clip he uses hypnotic suggestion to make himself invisible:

One caveat: it isn't set up for TV and it isn't all one big con; that would be more difficult than actually performing the trick.

What I like doing when watching Derren Brown is working out how he does it. I've kind of studied this kind of stuff ... but I'm curious what you're impression is when you see this for the first time...
