Temat: Howard Webb and that penalty - reaction from England:

just to throw in my take on the Webb decision - it was definitely the wrong decision. Why?
1. He should have shown his intent regarding pushing and pulling in the pen' area right from the 1st minute and not suddenly change his mind about it in the 92nd. Total inconsitency. He could have given 8 or 9 penalties during the match going by the standards he showed in the 92nd minute. (Not to mention all the premier league matches he has refereed)
2. At exactly the same time there was a Polish player (Bak) trying to get to the ball with an Austrian player pushing him over(as opposed to the Austrian who fell over miles away from the ball thus getting a penalty). Freekick to Poland.
Surely in this situation the ref has 3 options
a) call a penalty and a free-kick at the same time - obviously impossible
b) another retake
c) let it go

So whilst the argument is true - Lewandowski pulled the shirt and therefore was in the wrong, it is also true that the ref' was totally inconsistent and could equally have given a freekick the other way (the foul on Bak seemed more aggressive to me).

By the way there shouldn't have been a retake but a freekick for Poland if the linesman had been watching the push on Bak in the first place.
I'm with Poland on this one - although it has to be said that the team just didn't perform (apart from Boruc) and didn't desrve to get anything from Euro2008.
