I wonder what partnership means to you?

Does it mean performing household chores in turns/together? Making each and every decision together? Or maybe letting her carry all the bags herself if she asked for equality?

What kind of compromises are you ready to make?

How much freedom would you allow your partner to have?

I think it’s a matter of how you define “freedom”, I can’t see myself personally putting any sorts of restrains on my partner. Do what you will, who am I to tell you what you can and can not do. All I ever expect from any relationship; be it with my wife or business is honesty and I don’t think that’s asking too much.

Sure, why not, Kari and I, we had this conversation before our wedding.

I guess I'd say just make sure you're with someone who can be your best friend. When the romance is gone and the chemicals wear out, you will at least have someone you enjoy being with. I'd look for honesty more than being able to decide who's going to make coffee in the morning (ideally not me...), who has to take the trash out, or who gets to sleep sideways in bed when they feel like it.

It does depend on the situation. If my partner wanted to steal a million dollars to help my child survive (expensive treatment etc.) I'd help out. If he did it to buy himself yet another gold chain... Hey, I wouldn't have decided to spend my life with him in the first place! Gold chains are a major turn off.

(I hope you get the point, although served in very light sauce)

For me, the question isn't really "would you let...", as my wife is her own person, capable of making her own decisions. I advise as I see fit, and try to help her make what I think is the right decision. Being in a relationship means accepting when she makes the wrong decision, and helping to clear the mess. Silently.

Edit: and also feeling warm and safe, knowing that you can ask her for advice and help, and remain free to make your own choices, but that she'll be there to help if it goes pear-shaped.

Certain situations in life call for acts that go against morals. If your child’s, partners, or any family members’ life was being threatened by someone’s actions, wouldn’t you take their life? It wouldn’t even be a thought.

Oh hell no! hahaha... If I think she’s about to do something less than advisable, I will let her know how I feel about it right away. Mess more often than not, takes a lot more time to clean up then it takes to make it.

reasons are.

It sure is, the difference is – dealing with theft for no reason vs. dealing with theft when it is fully justified by circumstances.
For example: After hurricane Katrina, TV stations nationwide in the US were calling people looters. Meanwhile the state did absolutely nothing to help these people, they did not provide food, they did not provide assistance or help for days. Looting? No it’s survival, it’s making sure that you and your kin can last another day.
Are you going to tell me that you wouldn’t do that?

Alright, but that, again, is survival. You are forced to do something in order to save your family. But let's imagine, your partner is an accountant and plans to rob their boss. They have planed everything, no chance someone will discover the fraud. What would you say?
