Temat: How many ppl would get crazy?

Hi, i'm developing a webpage of my institute and there's gonna be a Polish and English version. How do u think - how many ppl would get crazy if as a link to the English version I put the Dixie Flag instead of British 1? :D

Well, just recently i've heard it's considered racist. I don't consider these issues like this, but wonder if many others do.
And moreover isn't it a bit ;) sacrilegous not to use british but the Dixie flag as a English version link?

I don't know how people feel about using a US symbol versus a GB for an English thing, but in the US there has been a lot of debate about using the confederate flag or derivatives of it design. I think the State of South Carolina had controversy about it recently with respect to its state flag. It's supposed to have racist connotations like you mentioned. It's "red neck" to people who live north of the Mason-Dixon (thus Dixie) line, but it's just a matter of heritage to a lot of southerners here who appreciate human differences as much as anyone. I'm sure you know the story even better than I, but it's one of those arguments over what's politically correct.

It says redneck to me too.

Furthermore, it's the flag of a country that existed for a short time only, 150 years ago, wasn't recognised by most other countries, and whose raison d'etre was human slavery.

And a certain proportion of visitors to your site wouldn't recognise it anyway.

I'm sure the southern US has a lot going for it, but institutionalised racism belongs in the past. There's a good image available that you can have on websites to click on. It's a combination of the US/UK flags and leaves no doubt that it leads to an English language page.
