Lidia, I do not justify hypocrisy, I'm far from it but there is a difference between having sheer satisfaction from someone's fall and disapproving of what they did but doing it in a way so that you, on the other hand don't show your moral superiority. And that's because you never know what's round the corner. Who knows? Maybe you're going to be next? Maybe not in tabloids but among friends which would be equally painful? And I'm not talking about you personally but anyone.

Marcin, I think what usually happens is people claim to be this or that and only later they do stupid things. That's human nature. I see why she might be an example of double standards (one must be blind not to see it) but there's no need in joining a party to celebrate it and I don't understand why anyone else would. For me it's just some tabloid gossip, but for him it's his country drama.
You can be offended, especially if they drive you nuts without any controversies, just by what they do and say.

Every country has its own dramas. To feel it and to let go of the steam are two seperate things. I may be disgusted but I don't need to shout about it because I never know when my faux-pas (to say it mildly) is going to be. Don't judge if you don't want to be judged, that's my point.

i can take this argument, except it may be a double-edged sward (such public scrutiny, i mean) but that's just my opinion. I've been a fool myself (once when i was young!) and it's not funny when you have to learn a painful lesson but even more painful when people keep pointing this out when you really want to put this behind you.

I think your outlook is admirable.

I think there ought to be a distinction between private people and public people who want to make laws. Sometimes it seems like the people with the lowest, most FUBAR understanding about human differences are the ones who assert rights and wrongs in principles of behavior.

It's hard for me to reconcile too. Technically, she has a personality disorder that ought to be treated. Another part of my brain processes her as a haughty bitch, who would publicly humiliate human beings and try to influence public policy against others with different, though righteous, perspectives in life. I think that's an important distinction - what she does for a living and the livest she wants to influence with her position.

I'm experiencing just the kind of schizophrenia. I believe we have to have ideals to strive for (even if we fail every day). I believe that those, who decide to take a position with a great responsibility, need to be aware of what they say and maybe think twice before they voice an opinion. After all, they are in a position of authority (at least for some). I believe that press/TV etc. is a wonderful source of exposing any kind of abuse because that hits our sore spot - our ego, our self-image. Personally, I’m disgusted by many aspects of her behaviour. On the other hand, I reckon it’s all about how we communicate what we disagree with (something, I try to learn since years). Try to hit your son because he hit his sister. What response are you going to get?

True :) In any case Kirky boy is in a win-win situation. Now everyone knows where his cafe is, he made good use of 45 grand and got his business going, he's been offered so many pints that his free Guinness is probably sorted for him for the next 5 years. Plus there are rumors that he is Catholic which would be immensely hilarious in this context. Not to mention that Iris and Pete are in deep shit and may have to step down big way.

oh, how much I hate such tabloid stories feeding on weakness, bad luck and humilitation of other people...
I think that people who get excited on such stories simply feel frustrated with their own lives and it's really a great time for them when they see other people drowning in even worse shit.
Personally I don't care if any of politicians, or popstars, or their wives or husbands or kids had sex with 19 yrs old guys or gals or monkeys or Barbara Streisand, or etc. It's te issue for them and their families and i think it's pathetic to read about such stuff in tabloids.

Anyway if Mrs Robinson had practised what she had preached, this bad situation wouldn't have happened to her and that's a good lesson. But still I cannot see anything funny there.
