Just dug out this thread because I'm exasperated. How would you translate the following dialogue into Polish, without making it sound stupid:
-The subcutaneous...
-Do you know what that means, Derek?
-Yeah, I do. "Under the skin."
It's a couple of movie subtitles. As far as I know, the only word for 'subcutaneous' is 'podskórny'. To make it worse, later on the girl starts whinging that for once the guy (Derek) could pretend he doesn't know what it means, just to make her happy.
I guess I just have to leave it sounding silly. Aaargh!

If there's no other reference to it, you could substitute, or have Derek's knowledge tested on another word from the text.
