Temat: GoldenLine in english?

just from curiousity, is there anyone here who doesn't actually know polish language?

if you answered something near to "hell yeah! I'm..." then please, tell me, how do you manage to use goldenline?

I'm thinking about english version of GL from a long time now but we've got a lot of other work to do before that... in the meanwhile we could like talk about it..and you know... oh you know...

;)

My Polish is on the poor side. Wait. Not poor. It's bankrupt. I know some words. I am able to use GL like a chimp can open a door.

Is Goldenline something unique? I hardly think so.
LinkedIn is more useful for professionals that GL, whilst Facebook and Myspace are largely similar concepts but have lots of younger users too.

Considering GL is supposed to be for professionals it is all rather informal when you look at the photos used and the silly comments and jokes that most of us make.

Not a trivial task, even more difficult if not done / planned from the very beginning. See how Xing does it;)

Yes it is unique, because it is not global in this global world. This was the reason why OpenBC (Xing) got so successful, from the start on it was German only community. Only after they made their first big money they started adding other language versions and features. Still it remains German and/or Germany focused community, like GL is Polish. Therefore my advice to Arvind, do not try to make it too international;)

I don't want to take it "too international" I just wish that Joj could use it like a polish person would...

I just miss working in environment that uses english language :P

Hey, Arvind, I wonder what those parents of Bill Gates and the others thought about their ideas when they were starting something? You have a good question about an ambitious idea, and that's admirable, in my opinion. :) I could name 100 successful ideas in 100 seconds that started from some curiosity. So could you. :)Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 07.02.08 o godzinie 18:08

Yes it is unique, because it is not global in this global world.
OK, so those that I listed are global, and Arvind's idea is for a national site. However in which country? Do we know for certain that each country doesn't already have its own similar sites?

Is the suggestion for an English language site in Poland? Who for? Would Poles want to use it if they have GL? How many non-Poles would want to use it, or would use it?

I'd imagine that part of the ex-pat population here is young and would appreciate a site which enabled them to actually meet other foreigners, but for general debate they could use an international site (with people from their own country).
Another part of the ex-pat group is directors and more mature people who either have no time to play around on the internet or have families and no real need in meeting strangers.

So, I'm not sure about there being a market for a separate site just for foreigners (many of whom aren't native English speakers).
Who'd pay for adverts?

lol :)

If I have a prejudice, it's against people who don't appreciate hardship, and elitists. I sat next to one on a plane recently. "and what DO you DO?" She asked. I was readng.

"I invented agriculture," I grumbled. She was quiet the rest of the time. :) :) :)

Makes little sense to make a site for another country. I think Arvin wants to add up to "English" capabilities of GL site, for the folks like you, who do not yet speak (enough) Polish but also for himself...;) I think "English only" is a good starter. If other groups in English popped out here, possibly with more professional or other focus, then they could attract lot of Poles too. I think that Xing is a good example how to handle this.

Do you mean adding an English interface for non-Polish speakers? That would be great!

But if you can't understand the interface, how will you understand the content?
I understood it as being a totally new site.

If you can't understand the interface you won't even get to see the content, let alone understand it.

Having ENG interface would allow non-PL (or those whose Polish isn't too good) speaking users to register in GL and go directly to the groups where they can communicate in their own languages.

EDIT: I assume there are more foreigners in here who speak/understand English than those who can communicate in Polish.Jarek Adamowski edytował(a) ten post dnia 08.02.08 o godzinie 18:54

They can try in Polish groups, why not?
