Temat: God's Body

Just a couple of days away from God's Body Day, time to block off the streets, have a procession, throw flowers around a bit and wave a golden communion wafer in the air.

And here's my challenge:

I've been here a while now and I've yet to find anyone who can answer this question:

What is Boże Ciało all about and in what way does it relate to the teachings of Jesus?

Perhaps you should get some rest, Grzegorz, before you send someone off to consult Wikipedia?

that's the point - it has nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus and is actually blasphemous.... :( ...but who reads the Bible nowadays? :(

Such man-made rituals make people mock Christianity:(

Temat: God's Body

Don't English speaking people call it Corpus Christi?

I'd imagine Steve has heard of wikipedia, and could navigate his way there unaided.

I further believe he reads Polish.

What he actually wrote was, 'can anyone answer the question ... ?'

Isn't it a celebration of summer when the Lord said unto his children, "Go forth and celebrate the life of my son by lighting a barbecue at home (if you are sensible) or by sitting in a traffic jam outside Kazimierz Dolny (if you aren't)"?

P.S. Why isn't it called Corpus Christi in Poland, or at least Chrystusa Ciało (er.. or something).

Yeah that one was well odd... And he used the word "bunkum" which I have never seen in writing before :) Found him - http://www.goldenline.pl/mariusz-dabrowski11 ;>

Another one was that acid-filled witch with her GL image tag saying something like "plutonium, strychnine, lye, mortars".Marcin B. edytował(a) ten post dnia 20.05.08 o godzinie 10:21

I've made some use of Grzegorz's link and visited Wikipedia hoping to find out why Boże Ciało should be regarded as 'blasphemous' (to no avail).

I'm not big on Church-related stuff, so unfortunately can't help much. The only thing I remember from my childhood years is that Boże Ciało was an excuse to dig out your beautiful white 1st Communion dress and don it once again pretending to be a fairy spreading petals all around... ;)

No, really, why is BC blasphemous, Grażyna? I'm intrigued...

And, with due respect, Evangelicals and born-agains got it right?

Well, the Wikipedia can. But I guess I'll retreat a bit and let you deal with your anger alone. Alcohol in small doses sometimes helps you know... ;)

Still - to my knowledge Corpus Christi is a thanksgiving celebration established by the Church, nothing to do directly with Jezus's teaching itself.

Right - didn't noticed that the engine does not remember the translation mode - sorry. But nothing stops you to use the engine yourselves, if not for translation than for admiring the way it deals with Polish language ;)

There's even a version of Wikipedia in English!!!
Since Corpus Christi is a Catholic festival and not Polish there is bound to be an entry (and there is of course).

However, I don't really understand your question Steve, or is it just rhetorical. According to Wikip. it is the celebration of the communion (??? - i.e. the breaking of bread to represent the body of Christ and the drinking of red wine for his blood), which was marked in certain places and then came widespread later after a papal announcement following a supposed miracle when a piece of bread actually became red.
It is a feast based purely on man's decision to create a feast, and not on a particular event, such as birth/death of Christ, ascension to heaven, etc.

What I do think is a shame is that Easter isn't around October. That way you could fit all Jesus' life and teachings into a nice story which you continue each week (at church or in school) for almost a year. When Jesus has ascended to heaven and the disciples have been touched by the holy spirit (whatever it is called, you know when they begin speaking in 'tongues'), the story would end, but then re-start just a couple of weeks' later at Christmas.

It seems strange that we celebrate his birth in December, his death in spring, but then have to fit most other stories at random moments throughout the year.

Well… given that Christianity stole most holidays from the paganism… it only makes sense…

Not Christianity, Rafal, but people representing some denominations within the Christian faith.....
