A curse word for some, slogan for others but what does it really mean?

What pros and cons can we come up with?

I think the most obvious ones would be

Pro - open global market
Con - destruction of mom and pop's market

You are right, I do not like that word either.

Hard to tell really.
Pros: availability of the goods for everyone, standardization, compatibility
Cons: monopoly, quality of products, overall manipulation :(

This one of the topics I do not really enjoy even thinking of, and I do not want to be ignorant here, this is how I feel.

Monopoly and product quality will definitely play a huge role. Also, relations between consumer and product provider will be reduced to automated responses from pre programmed machines. Trend in pricing will become artificial and not market driven. Supply and demand will not be the number 1 rule of marketing anymore.

Let's mention the biggest con of all: The World Trade Organization claims to have all the answers and strategies and take control of organizing this ideal global market, but when a country does something they don't agree with, even if it's already established in a WTO contract, they fight tooth an nail and throw their weight around until they get their way.

The perfect example is when WTO "punished" US for our nifty practice of gambling on line by letting small Caribbean countries violate American copyrights and trademarks. They hated not having a slice of the pie when it came to that cash flow. Plus, it is an issue of debt collecting for financial institutions - the poor fellows, we were making their job difficult. :P
