I find your belief that you and other foreigners learn to speak > better English than is spoken in the U.K. in your home countries, (...), and I don't in any way apologise for believing such beliefs to be 'stupid'.

I admit, it would be stupid of me if I had such views, except, I don't. But that's enough I believe on the subject.

But you do. At least what you have written can be interpreted to mean this. And this is one of the things that was making me angry.
Sorry to interrupt...
When you are angry, say what makes you angry.
The other way (i.e. calling the other side 'moron') will not make things easier for you.
+ it's not easy on the eye.
Psychology 101.
I believe it's not your major, but I'm sure you've learnt something about this in your life.
Why not to apply it to this discussion group?

It's very much 'ground-hog day', Ilter.

I'm reverting to type. Tatiana is reverting to type. You are reverting to type.
That's a wrong assumption, Warren.
I came here after I received a 'status update' in Facebook.
It was so cliche, I knew that either you called someone 'moron', or someone else couldn't handle things in a civilised manner.
I suppose, to a point, I'm not really reacting to what was written on this thread, but rather to the less inspiring contributions I've read in the past,
It can't be somebody else's fault then, can it?
Well, not only that but years of living in Poland. Kind of the straw that breaks the camel's back.
A guy on the street would say "Oh, too bad... get on with it!" to this.
Maybe what annoys me is not quite as bad as the Muslim-are-terrorists-who-will-eat-your-children-and-impose-Sharia-law-on-Poland-brigade must be for you, but perhaps you can 'get' what I feel.
I got it.
You should have understood it as well.

But I'm not picky about ignorance shown when it comes to muslims only. I react to any type of ignorance.

You need to understand the difference between the ignorance and the human curiosity though.
If you can't, we can't communicate.

If you are going to handle simple questions the way you did in this thread, you are going to have more 'exciting' moments, Warren.
I hope you know this.
If all you wanted was a little adrenalin... then you must be happy, I guess.

I must say that I do agree with Warren that when people in Poland ask foreigners, esp from the West why they're here, they DO mean, 'your country is better, why Polnad?', but I don't think it's the only reason. I can think of another, that is Poland simply is not a multinational country (like US or UK) therefore having someone of a different origin there naturally causes interest.
I DO think that Poles, as a nation, have the iferiority complex, why?, I don't know, but hopefully we won't blame it on communism or World War II because it starts to be more of an excuse than a real reason.
Personally, I think it's time we (Poles) moved on, not forgeting our past of course, but learning from it.
You should have replaced "Poland" with "under-developed country" or "developing countries" in your above message.
It's not about Poland.

I'd say it does apply to Poland.

Not necessarily the objective situation, but what goes on inside peoples heads.

Of course, the situation is changing, people are travelling, and realising they are not so different to people from 'the West'.

But there is still some way to go.

If you don't believe me, spend some time in the Londyn group.

Of course, it's easier to call the other a 'moron'.

And some views, for example 'Asians smell funny', 'English people don't speak English properly', don't merit serious discussion.

You are reverting to type.

You see yourself in the role of 'conciliator', 'psychoanalysist' and 'emotional intelligence guru'.

You've done this on a number of occasions before.

Now, this is not a criticism.

I'm just saying there is nothing new under the sun, and that we've all been here before.

It's all part of the cosmic dance of the GL universe, in which we play our respective roles.

I'd say it does apply to Poland.
So it does to Turkey.
Guess what is common between Turkey and Poland.

The only reason I'm here right now, is the funny pattern you expose.
You see yourself in the role of 'conciliator', 'psychoanalysist' and 'emotional intelligence guru'.
No I don't.
I'm just writing things using the common sense.
I write these, because I don't see anyone else doing it.
You've done this on a number of occasions before.
Let's say I have done it.
It doesn't prove that I am wrong.
Now, this is not a criticism.
Obviously it is.
If I see myself as an 'emotional intelligence guru' there must be something wrong with me.
I'm just saying there is nothing new under the sun, and that we've all been here before.

I don't play any roles, Warren.
This is me, in real life.
And by the way, rude and aggressive reactions sometimes create interesting discussions, do they not?
If you call this thread 'interesting', yes. As I wrote earlier, if this is your way of having fun, you must be happier and satisfied right now.

No.
Poland and Turkey are two developing countries.
The problems we face in Poland and Turkey are almost identical.

And you are the arbiter of what is 'common sense'?
Apparently, yes.
Do you want me to take quotes from other people who wrote similar things before me, but failed to cool you down?
Let's say I have done it.
It doesn't prove that I am wrong.
I never claimed you were 'wrong'.
Then how would you describe the things I am writing without being inconsistent in different occasions which has drawn your attention WHILE you are claiming that I am playing a 'guru' role?
Now, this is not a criticism.
Obviously it is.
Because you say so?
No.
Because the one who calls him/herself 'guru' could be defined as 'an idiot' in non-technical terms.
You called me 'idiot'??
hehe
Seriously though... what would you say if you saw "Music Guru" in my Goldenline profile, as a description?
Probably you wouldn't call yourself as "Teaching Guru", would you?
If I see myself as an 'emotional intelligence guru' there must be something wrong with me.

Why so?
Please read above.
And we all play 'roles' to a greater and lesser extent.
Oh, thanks for the enlightment.
I don't know exactly what 'roles' you play, but I'm quite sure you are not the same Ilter in all social, business, family and romantic situations.
And how could you know that? Are you -by any chance- my ex-fiance?

Warren,

If you have any problems with me, or with the "persona" I exhibit, let's take it to another place/thread.
You might learn something new. Also about me.

What you do (also right now) seems like trying to drag the attention away from the real subject while making unprofessional analyses about people (including me).

If you go on like this, I may have to use your way of 'discussing' things.

We -Turks- also ask people the very same question.
("what made come/move to Turkey?")

And you know what, we don't really care from which country these people are.

I mean... what on Earth could be more natural than shooting this question?

When 2 guys meet in New Jersey, and Jersey dude learns the other moved from LA, what do you think is the first question to ask? (And this dude moved from West to East!!! wohoo!)

So be warned, expat, you will have to face with the question in Turkey. And WE DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, OR HOW YOU LOOK! (Can you believe it?)
YOU ARE THE LEGAL (OR ILLEGAL) ALIEN WHEN YOU LIVE IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY!!
Oh my God, that's heavy. But someone had to do it.

Sorry for smashing the dreams of those who are planning to move to Turkey. hah.
