Steve Jones:
This week's questions come from the beautifully manicured hands of Lidia Kwiatkowska:)

1. Write down 3 towns that have had some impact on your life. Please explain.
Gdynia – I was born here, I live here, I love this place. It’s hard for me to imagine living in any other city. That has been complicating few things in my life.
Wrocław – important for many personal reasons.
Copenhagen – I love this city, not only because I had a fantastic time there a few years ago.

2. Can you recall a situation when you completely lost control?
Sorry to disappoint you, but I can not.
What happened?

3. If you were to work as a volunteer for a certain period of time what sort of activities would you do?
Taking care of dogs in a shelter.

4. Does your family have a saying or a phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?
Years ago, on my arrival back home after a long trip, I made a slip of the tongue and said “Wszędzie w domu, ale dobrze najlepiej.” Since then, we’ve been repeating it when feeling extremely happy to be back at home.

I also heard a good one in December. It is not a family saying, but I liked it a lot. I was talking to my mom, complaining about the fact that I don’t have appropriate outfit to wear for NYE party: no dress, no shoes, no jewelry, etc. “Aha; ani pietruszki, ani w co wkroić.” – said my mom with understading. It made me laugh.

5. What is one thing that have you learnt recently?
The Murphy’s laws are soooo true.

1. Write down 3 towns that have had some impact on your life. Please explain.
Warsaw - no better place in Poland to live and work.
NYC - amazed, stunned, sunk in it and never wanted to be rescued from.
Kuznice - asylum back in 80's.
2. Can you recall a situation when you completely lost control? What happened?
Can't. Probably I went mad as Hulk and lost this memory. Fortunatelly. Or, never went as mad.
3. If you were to work as a volunteer for a certain period of time what sort of activities would you do?
If I knew how I would treat children. give them hope for healthy life.
4. Does your family have a saying or a phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?
"Czy pani jest nienormalna?" - said to my mum by one client in the pharmacy. Now said whenever we do something stupidly dumb ;)
5. What is one thing that you have learnt recently?Steve Jones edytował(a) ten post dnia 30.01.09 o godzinie 12:55

That I know how to help and am able to be nice, though it feels strange.

This week's questions come from the beautifully manicured hands of Lidia Kwiatkowska:)

1. Write down 3 towns that have had some impact on your life. Please explain.

I moved so often that I can't really tell which city has had the greatest impact on me. Recently, though, definitely Austin, TX; Warsaw, and where I'm living now, Katowice. They mean home, fun, love, kids, family, work, and friends, in no particular order.

2. Can you recall a situation when you completely lost control? What happened?

I once threw a mug full of coffee at someone who I'd thought to have been a real friend, and who refused to help out, giving a silly reason.
And, oh, while in labor, but it was an "inburst" rather that an outburst of feelings and emotions, including the famous "Get the fucking baby out of me, now!" as experienced by most mothers.

3. If you were to work as a volunteer for a certain period of time what sort of activities would you do?

What I do now. Engage in charity work for disabled/terminally ill children.

4. Does your family have a saying or a phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?

"Duh" - from my American in-law relatives
"Ani mnie to zieje, ani grzębi" - a cousin once rad it in a book by Chmielewska (Wszystko czerwone) and found it, as well as the whole book, hilarious.

5. What is one thing that you have learnt recently?

To make kluski na parze from scratch, and to prepare tempura. I also learned that neither "Out of sight, out of mind" nor "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" are true.

1. Write down 3 towns that have had some impact on your life. Please explain.

Plymouth, Devon, not because because I like it, but because my family and friends live there and because I have to keep going back there.

Krakow, because I discovered how a nice town can retain its character over centuries.

Oxford because I have family there too and features in the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman.

2. Can you recall a situation when you completely lost control?

Yes, and it taught me that the less dignity I have, the more precious it is to me.

3. If you were to work as a volunteer for a certain period of time what sort of activities would you do?

Anything that would support the cause I was volunteering for. If I could choose the activity, maybe setting up a recording studio for disadvantages teens, or putting together art therapy classes...so many possibilities.

4. Does your family have a saying or phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?

I think in my family we all have individual phrases that we all individually keep repeating. Mine at the moment is czy mówi pan po angielsku?

5. Is there anything that you have learned recently?

That learning can be fun.

4. Does your family have a saying or a phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?
We are my family, so yes.. 'oh snap', 'wowie wowie', 'it is what it is', 'damn right, it's better than yours, I could teach you, but I have to charge' - that last one is usually accompanied by shoulder bumps and a little sway. ;D

5. What is one thing that you have learnt recently?
There are TONS of people that are all talk and NO action. Those that talk least, take the most action. -- Not applied to GL, of course.

2. Can you recall a situation when you completely lost control?
What happened?
Maybe not completely lost control, but I was little scared/in panic last year when I came back from Belgium by car (in July). I was 40 km from Warsaw, with GPS, tremendous storming and lightening, trees on the streets, it was almost night ... GPS misdirected me after deviation of police, no city/town names. I had also near no diesel anymore. I tell you ... then there was little panic. But finally everything came OK ... otherwise I could not write this anymore ;)

3. If you were to work as a volunteer for a certain period of time what sort of activities would you do?
Support kids doing some sport

4. Does your family have a saying or a phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?
Take care !

Steve Jones:
This week's questions come from the beautifully manicured hands of Lidia Kwiatkowska:)
Thank you, miss.
1. Write down 3 towns that have had some impact on your life. Please explain.
>It's hard to choose. it's like chapters in books. Here's three "pulled from a hat." 1). Prudenville. A small town near my grandparent's summer home on Houghton Lake. I spent almost every summer weekend there. I would swim at night, in the rain, warm or cold, walk in the forest barefoot in any weather and at night, and why: I still do those things now very often. My birthplace, a one-dimensional auto factory town almost completely devoid of any other culture. You go one of two ways, and I crave differences now. A town near Władysławowo. I saw a sunset there that will haunt me forever. Windy sunset after a severe storm. I was alone, it was epiphaniacal, not in the religious sense. Maybe a little melancholic, but that's how I tick.
2. Can you recall a situation when you completely lost control? What happened?
I'm average in emotionl intelligence. Never completely lost control in that way. But an altimeter, a boat, an aspirator, H2O breathing apparatus, bicycle, horse, spatial orientation, baseball, basketball, snowmobile, an electromyo stimulation device (attached to someone - sorry), jet ski, salmon, vision and eyelid (kaboom) paintings, bread dough, a football, and vomit.
3. If you were to work as a volunteer for a certain period of time what sort of activities would you do?
I have for years as almost second jobs. I'm not particualrly altrusitic but 1) it's easier to do here even in the simple logistics of physically getting my body there, and 2). It just happens, and 3) I dont have kids of my own. They all have to do with kids who have disabilities and one with terminally sick kids.
4. Does your family have a saying or a phrase that you yourself also keep repeating? What is it?
Negative. We don't
5. What is one thing that you have learnt recently?
