Nope, you're not mad (or maybe you are)... it isn't quite Friday yet, but I might not be able to post tomorrow, so here we go...

Questions courtesy of the glorious Aleksandra Pogarzelska all the way from Gdynia (very close to me, actually!)

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?

2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?

3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.

4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?

5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody
from the past to the present times and let him live three days in
today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he
should see?

President Johnson, just so he can see how much damage his retarded anti drug laws have done to this country.

2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of > humankind?

I think the fact that we are still here is the most remarkable achievement. The odds of us surviving on this planet are so low and we are definitely not making it any easier.
I mean, just imagine a ball of solid flying through space and spinning at the same time at 900mph… that’s insanity… then imagine all the god damned fuckwits who sit there with their hands right over the big red button waiting for orders… yep… it’s a true miracle.

3.Give us the titles of three books that you think > every man should read.

Carl Sagan - "Cosmos"
Richard Dawkin - "The God Delusion"
Stephen Hawking - "A Brief History of Time"

4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?

Ralfie - what my friends call me.
Amok - my dj name

5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?

I don’t think it’s really any one thing… we’re all human and sometimes do silly things that could get on each other’s nerves. With that said… I think nagging would be the one!

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?

It doesn't make sense to do it. People are blind when it comes to reality. They can't see or feel present moment. So I would left them alone in theirs past. They coudn't see really important things. Technology is not so important for people's wisdom.

2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?
There are no REAL humankind achievements since stone age. Technology is not so important as I stated above.

3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.

1) "The awakening" Anthony de Mello
2) Reality
3) Reality

4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?

I have no one nickname. I often change my surrounding.
5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?

Only one thing is annoying for me which is present in all beloved or hatred persons: my own features which aren't liked by myself. Period. :)

Steve Jones:

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?

My great-grandmother. I'd show her that whatever she invested in me: love, friendship, time, and money did not really go to waste. She would probably be happy to meet my son, too.

And a famous figure? Jerzy Ziętek, the founder of the WPKiW park, in hope that when he sees it, he'll make people go and improve it a bit...

2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?

Medicine. No doubt.

3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.

Dawkins, The God Delusion - I see Raf and I read the same books
AA Milne, Winnie The Pooh
and... an encyclopedia? :)

4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?

I do. All my friends call me Pandora. Long story; to cut it short: there were two Tatianas in a group of friends, so one had to be nicknamed (I just realized it was over 15 years ago... time flies...). A friend of mine was reading Sue Townsend's Mole books. Nuff said.
I love this nick!

5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?

Physical things? He snores ;)
Other? He has schedules for everything and little room for spontaneity. Which is supposedly a good thing, because I tend to have crazy ideas!

1. They've already had their chance. And we still have. To remember and learn; from their mistakes and from their achievements. So, the answer is - no one. Let them be free at last.

2. The greatest level of egoism and self destructive tendencies in nature.

3. Oh, if EVERY human kind had read THREE books in their lifetime that would be something! Pick anything - just read - and understand.

4. I thought I don't, but I found out Caro is my nick name. I use it a lot as my English name, so yes - I like it.

5. That he/she is not real? ;)

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?
Probably any one of the famously nefarious cats. Show 'em around everywhere...lecture 'em on how it didn't matter.
2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?
Cognition.
3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.
I'm always the one receiving recommendations (send them along) :) My edifying reading has always been nerdy stuff anyway (though the US Army Ranger handbook wasn't). :) I'm a Carl Sagan fan like Raf, and I'm just now getting around to reading a book a friend of ours from here recommended. I think I would recommend something based on situational considerations. I agree with what "Caro" wrote.
4.Do you have a nickname
Negative.
5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?
My significant other. Hmmm...Despite all the good feelings?...Leaks. Wont maintain air pressure and doesn't stay inflated. ;)Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 19.09.08 o godzinie 04:51

When his preconceived notions take priority over the reality of a situation, hindering any sort of productive discussion. And the pissing contests. I do not have a penis - I will always lose. :(

Cheers, Ola.
1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?
Tough choice, but let's try to narrow it down. As per your question females are excluded. This eliminates about 55% of the potential choices. Good.

Well, I'd probably go for the very first australopithecus (or whatever it's spelled). I'd want him to see what the world's become and make him reconsider staying on trees and spending time with chimps, gorillas and other apes.
2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?
The Internet? neh that's the geek in me talking.

The fact the world hasn't been anihilated yet.
3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.
1. The Bible, Koran, Tora and all other religious texts - read 'em, think of what you've read, understand it, draw conclusions, keep living your normal life.
2. JRR Tolkien - L.O.T.R. (what? I really think people should read it!)
3. S.Hawking - A brief history of time
4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?
Well, back in high school and at uni people called me Yaro. I don't have any nicks anymore, that I'm aware of at least. I do use Jerry Adams as a "stage name" and a couple of aliases for my various online activities.
5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?
What Ralf said + the constant need to analyze things, and re-analyze them, then analyze them once more and when you it's over... bam! how 'about analyzing them for the 4th time?

3. S.Hawking - A brief history of time

How awesome is that book!?!?!?! I thought it would be just another geek's wet dream filled with a ton of impossible to decipher gibberish... I was nicely surprised!

Another gem is Carl Sagan’s “The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark”

AMAZING!!!

The reason was that it only contains ONE formula:
E=mc2

I love how he explains the theory of relativity... I think that every science teacher should use examples from that book in a classroom environment. I’ve always hated physics and science (not really into math)… my physics teacher was a.. well, let’s just say she’s left much to desire, so I’ve never really “got it”. After reading “A brief history of time” I had no issues what so ever with understanding what Professor Hawking was talking about.

Right. I think this is how you can tell a real genius from a "scientist" - by how they can explain even the most abstract and difficult things in a way that teh average Joe understands them.

Look up Richard Feynman's lectures on google (I'd do the research for you, but the net is so fekking slow here). He's another brilliant example of how science should be taught. Plus he was one hell of a playboy and a boozer ;)

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?

Walt Disney - to see WALL-E.

2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?

50-50 between language and music. After some thinking, I'd say the split is more like 49 to 51.

3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.

1. Bill Bryson - The short history of nearly everything
2. Robin Skynner & John Cleese - Life and how to survive it
3. Lewis Carroll - Alice in Wonderland.

I'd love to read the Brief history of time, especially if you say it's written in a fairly plain English.

4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?

My classmates called me 'Księżniczka Lunatyczka', a nickname I was very fond of. When we did a play of Cinderella, I was given a special 'cameo' part ;) I don't know why I was called that, probably because I've always been a bit spacey, but they all swore they could see me sleepwalking at night near the Olsztyn Castle (what they would do there at such times is another matter).

I was unfortunately also called names at my playground, which are too ugly to repeat. And I didn't deal with it very well.

5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?

The fact that I don't have any.

1.Imagine you have the power to bring somebody from the past to the present times and let him live three days in today’s world. Who would you choose and what do you think he should see?

Einstein would be s good choice and should have plenty to say about the Large Hadron Collider.

2.What do you think is the greatest achievement of humankind?

Probably computers so far. The next great achievement will be worth seeing.

3.Give us the titles of three books that you think every man should read.

War and Peace, by L Tolstoy, The History of the Second World War, by W Churchill and Trainspotting, by I Welsh

4.Do you have a nickname (or have you had any in the past, e.g. in school times)? What is it? Why do people call you that? Do you like it?

Yes, not saying, not saying, no.

5.What is the feature about your significant other that you find annoying and sometimes really hard to bear, despite all the good feelings you have for her/him?

Newly single after 6 years and still getting over a 'significant other'. There was plenty I found hard to bear. Nice person though, with a good, kind heart which made the shocking unreliability a bit more tolerable.Jon M. edytował(a) ten post dnia 19.09.08 o godzinie 17:04
