Steve Jones:
Questions courtesy of our man in Warsaw, Mr. Adam Lipiński!
1. Poles have been known for their commitment to lost causes. Have you ever found yourself defending a lost cause? What was it, and what was the ultimate outcome?
Portsmouth FC were a lost cause. I started supporting them in the third division.
Then all of a sudden they became good.
Pogon Szczecin are also pretty much a lost cause.
Other lost causes would be my attempts not to smoke, drink, be addicted to the internet, so on and so forth.
I'm a lost cause myself.
2. The first time is the deepest, even for emotional surfer boys. How did you meet your first love? Who were they and how did you part? Did it determine or otherwise affect your future amorous pursuits?
Probably my first real love would have to be my first wife who I met at university. We parted acrimoniously after ten years. It killed my innocence and youth and filled me with regret.
3. Are you easily offended? What was the gravest insult you've heard and how did you handle it?
I wouldn't say I was easily offended, but I've certainly got a short fuse.
My response to insults depends on how intimidating I find the person insulting me, and I either react with anger or hold my tongue accordingly.
As most men would.
However, I am rather proud and have been known to have a go at someone in a position of authority over myself (resulting in my losing my job), or physically stronger (resulting in a black eye).
In some Nazi prison camp, or something of that nature, I'd imagine I'd be the first person to get themselves shot. (Which isn't necessarily a good thing, a more intelligent or braver person than myself would try to survive).
4. Everyone has a price. Could you possibly picture youself doing public striptease or making love to an obese Arab sheikh? If yes, then answer Borat's trademark question: "How much?"
It's difficult to answer such a question hypothetically. Someone would have to put the money on the table and then we'll see what happens.
About taking my clothes of in public - it's not something I'd really care about. Of course it would depend on the circumstances and who would see me. But I'd probably do it for not too much money. It's not really an offer I'd be likely to get, however.
An obese Arab sheik. On first thoughts I wouldn't agree to be sodomised for any amount of money. But on reflection, why would it be any worse than having one of your teeth extracted? My doctor is always proposing to perform vile medical tests on myself, and if I am willing to agree to medical instruments being inserted, why not something different?
On the other hand you'd have to consider the man bouncing you up and down on his knee, slobbering all over you, calling you 'darling' and so on.
That's a difficult one. But let's say I was offered an unimaginably large sum for the act, one that would keep me in luxury and indolence for the rest of my life, what then?
5. Some people live in order to pass on the genes. Some people are like sponges or video cameras, collecting experiences, living their own movies. What is the ultimate goal of your life?
I reckon were just here to pass on our genes.
The purpose of our lives is to give our children a better start in live than we had ourselves, and hopfully have fun along the journey.
But I wouldn't say I was necessarily any good at the above.
