I've made a language mistake because of a simple typo when I was my first day at work in a bank. It was my first job in english so I wrote a mail to my supervisors and other team leaders about assesments...Arvind Juneja edytował(a) ten post dnia 21.05.10 o godzinie 13:03

1. What is the weirdest thing you've seen in Poland/ abroad ?

Deep-fried Mars bar. Well, hello Scottish cuisine...
2. Retirement or work, why?

Work. Retirement is for wimps.
3. Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3.Nini, 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth?

Oh cmon.
4. What is the worst (offensive) word you've said to someone? Tell us a little about this situation.

Ye lil feckin ejit after too much Guinness.
5. What's the funniest language misunderstanding you've made / heard / seen?

My neuroanatomy professor telling us an anecdote about shadows on the wall in the context of complexity of synaptic transmission. Somehow he linked that to the musings of Immanuel Kant but with his German accent this sounded like "and than Cunt thought that zis ver those shadowz on ze Vall, and so Cunt vent on to develop hiz theory that henceforth became known as ze Cunt theorem"

1. Many things since I moved to Greece - a tree in the middle of asphalt road, a goat on the high tree and many more.

2. Work or at least some kind of activity to occupy my time.

3. Mary but I must admit that Nunu crossed my mind.

4. I use sarcastic/ironic language. It's rather a longer sentence not just a single word.

5. The well known word when you're Polish and speak to Czech person - "szukać". Two days ago I spoke with my Czech neighbors and used it again. "Szukać" in Polish means "to look for" and in Czech "szukat" (so quite close) means something far away from "looking for" :)

1. What is the weirdest thing you've seen in Poland/ abroad ?

Where to start...?
The weirdest thing I've heard recently is called "Gwiazda". A 12year old girl found out she's pregnant. Not only that she doesn't know what that is, she doesn't know how she got pregnant or by whom.
It so turns out that these kids play "Gwiazda", i.e. the girls lie down in a star shape, naked, the boys come in and have sex with them. Because it has to be dark in the room, nobody sees anything, but it's fun... Or something.
2. Retirement or work, why?

I retire the same way Lemmy does.
3. Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana, 2. Nene, 3.Nini, 4. Nono. What is the name of the fifth?

What of course.
4. What is the worst (offensive) word you've said to someone? Tell us a little about this situation.

I'm too shy to be rude and to nice to be offensive. At least outside goldenline ;P
5. What's the funniest language misunderstanding you've made / heard / seen?

"Ruchaj myszke" I said once to my ex-gf after she called and asked me hysterically what to do with the computer because the screen just had turned black (screen saver). Haha, very funny. So why the bloddy hell do you call your darn kiosks "Ruch".
Hm? Any Poles here wanna answer that? :)

1. What is the weirdest thing you've seen in Poland/ abroad ?
In Poland: (I've been in violence in other places) I've attended to some drunk injuries in Poland during winter festivities. Two MIs in churches there (the priests literally walked over us); the driving in Poland is awesome. Bad. "Weirdly" stylish people. I think Polish people are among the most stylish people around.

5. What's the funniest language misunderstanding you've made / heard / seen?
I always remember asking my friend, Mirek (happens to be the most gracious man I've ever met)in an exam room, for his "dlugi pies." Making a writing motion. He just laughed and gave me his pen. Normal. :)Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 21.05.10 o godzinie 17:21

4. What is the worst (offensive) word you've said to someone? Tell us a little about this situation.

I tend to swear quite much at times, and argue heavily with people, but I don't remember calling people any names, or labeling them "idiot" and the like. It's more about other things. But i know it hurts, even more, anyway..

5. What's the funniest language misunderstanding you've made / heard / seen?

"Tengo hambre" mispronounced as "Tengo hombre" ("I'm hungry" and "I want a man") is what people tend to say when they are in a hurry. Usually welcomed with applause from the male party.

4. What is the worst (offensive) word you've said to someone? Tell us a little about this situation.

This is unmeasurable and indeterminable in my case...
5. What's the funniest language misunderstanding you've made / heard / seen?

I haven't got many of these.. but there's that one which always make me smile.
Long story short - I used to work in a hotel as a night auditor and reception clerk. Every once in a while we have had funny situations with guests unable to speak in any sort of recognizable languages. One time there was a cancelled flight and we took some of distressed passengers to our hotel, amongst whole bunch of people was that funny Finnish man.. grey haired, moustache, beard etc but the funniest thing was... he was unable to communicate in any other language
than Suomish.. so apparently he got very drunk (everyone understands vodka&coke strangely :P) and came to the reception desk trying to ask us to guide him or instruct how to get to city centre and have some fun (at least this is what I still think he wanted)- as you may not know by now, we were trying hard not start dying out of laughter in front of the dude when he spoke to us and we couldn't get a single word (drunk Finnish is killer funny...) so we called a cab and sent him straight to a large pub/restaurant. This would surely be the end...
but that guy came back couple of hours later. Much more drunk and merry. He came around reception desk and seemed to try and thank us :D Once again we were trying really hard not to start laughing.. but then, it seemed that he started to tell us what he actually did - making gestures like drinking, dancing, eating, kissing etc etc at this stage we couldn't hold it anymore and burst out with laughters all around..

sorry for such a long story.. and I know it may not seem so funny to others.. but I laugh whenever I think of it...
