It reminds me of an episode of Dear John (about a rather depressed guy and his meetings with the divorcees' 'One-to-One Club'.
The group is invited to a party, but they are warned by the group leader that the hostess, Mrs Boyd-Peters, has an embarassing problem.
After a few minutes at the party it becomes clear that she has problems with flatulence. After the first rasping noise, when everything suddenly goes silent in the room, John tries to be polite and pretend that it was him who farted. "Excuse me" he says. When it happens again, Ralph, who is also from the group follows John's example and does the same thing - "Pardon me".
Kirk St Moritz, who is a kind of playboy idiot and from the group asks them what they are doing as he doesn't understand why they are taking the blame. So they explain that they are trying to take away Mrs Boyd-Peters' embarrassment.
"Ohhh, I geddit," says Kirk.
So, the party continues, and a few minutes later there is another rasping sound.
Kirk clears his throat, "Ahem, that's alright Mrs Boyd-Peters, you can have that one on me."
I loved that series when I was young, but the BBC seem to have thrown the film away as they never repeat it...
