Daft cow. Just as daft as all those dumb leftist movements in the West after '45. Fucking idiots who were "infatuated" with communism. I knew such pricks in Goettingen also known as Rote Uni who tried to tell me how much progress there was in the USSR and how the working class benefited from it. Jeez, it left me, and still does, fuming.

I did. Funny how communism and all its flavours seem theoretically attractive when you have 60 grand a year? Then communism is just one of those semi-eccentric fables along the lines "what if" and definitely is worth trying.Marcin B. edytował(a) ten post dnia 28.07.10 o godzinie 23:34

"Useful idiots" I think Lenin himself called them. That's it from my end. It is driving me ballistic.

She might be serious but sure as hell isn't inspired. She refers to ideas in notes she's holding, and she's too rehearsed as we would say.I was reading something by C. Milosz about disgust as it related to the "New Order:"
"It was Jozef Czapski who told me this story from the Russian Revolution. At a railroad station buffet a man, who was distinguished from his surroundings by his dress and manners and who obviously belonged to the prewar intelligentsia, was eating dinner. He drew the attention of several hooligans who were seated in the restaurant. They came over to his table and began mocking him, finally spitting in his soup. The man did not defend himself at all and did not attempt to drive off his attackers. This went on for a long time. Suddenly, he pulled a revolver from his pocket, placed the barrel in his mouth, and shot himself. Evidently, what he had encountered here was the last drop in a cup that was already full of the revulsion that the unleashing of ugliness had triggered in him. No doubt he was thin-skinned, raised in a gentle milieu that had protected him quite well from the brutalized reality which is accepted as normal by the lower classes. That brutality and vulgarity had reached the surface along with the revolution and became an atribute of Soviet life.
In 1939 the population of Wilno and Lwow suddenly discovered the grayness and ugliness of this life. I shall risk proposing the thesis that Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz committed suicide less out of terror and more from disgust at what he knew would happen, which he had already described in his novel, 'Farewell To Autumn.' George Orwell, who had not read Witkiewicz, after all, depicts daily life under the rule of the new order in just the same way in '1984': the grayness, dirt, boredom, smells from cheap cafeterias. Calling this type of sensitivity 'aesthetic' doesn't get us very far. It is better to ponder what it is that is unbearable in human existence and the convergence of these features under certain conditions. Which leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to protect man, even, if necessary, by wrapping him in a cocoon of illusions." Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 29.07.10 o godzinie 02:03

Long time I used to work in the Munich area as an engineering designer and our company was taken over by some French competitor. So I got a new French boss who was a real French communist. Was quite a shock to someone who just escaped Poland, I could not imagine this was possible at all. Then I got friendly with Mark and he turned out to be quite nice guy, nevertheless he belived that crap..;)Andrzej Pieniazek edytował(a) ten post dnia 29.07.10 o godzinie 02:13

A real French communist from a real communist block probably in Neuilly sur Seine. Probably as real as the elusive French Resistance.
Fucking Chardonnay communists.

It's basically attention-whoring combined with naivety:"Look at me, look, I'm here, at this point in time, at this stage and, you won't believe, what I just discovered!!!"
Being it Hitler or Stalin or Buddhism, it's always an epiphany to see an epiphany at work.

It's a good feeling to be a part of something, to "belong." So good for them. There ought to be a Communist Fantasy Camp, however, where people could pay a few thousand vacation dollars to "live the dream" for two weeks, np, in a Disney'esque theme park setting. A fake town.Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 30.07.10 o godzinie 17:36
