I mean, what is WRONG with this woman? Fuck it, I say when it comes to binge drinking, American college kids are no match :)

Then, again, I don't really understand why she keeps trying to prove her "Polish emigre friends" are so much better than the British even though all they get to do is sort potatoes.

Norwegians are no match either. Although they drink only on weekends but then they do drink.
:)))

Tatiana - not all Poles in the UK sort potatoes. Let's be honest - some of them have really good and well paid jobs.

"The Poles have always been heavy boozers"

yeah, right

"Arabians are terrorists"

thank you for such narrow thinking. Now I understand Warren's attitude concerning Mrs Ola

No, I was referring to her previous article, in which she mentioned her friends being shocked that their coworkers (at the bak of a restaurant kitchen...) spoke "dumbed down" English. I wasn't saying Poles don't get good jobs abroad.
Sometimes I think I need to be more explicit in what I write.

Warren, another Aleksandra dziewczynka. FMG! Please have mercy on us!
What she bubbling about? What "Poles....tend to ..."? What "Brits behave in a different way..."

I am so grateful to my father for teaching me what to do when facing such things.

"DON"T GET ANGRY! GET EVEN!"

Enjoy your nightcap!

I couldn't read beyond the first paragraph, where her credibilty went south. Way south.

amen to that, thank goodness:)))

unfortunately, yes, Brits do drink A LOT... it is enough to drive in villages, towns or cities at night.... There are even travel agents, as BBC reported last year, that organize binge drinking trips to Poland - it is hard to prove, though, that it is only UK citizens that set off for such 'excursions'.

The woman is a tour de force. I have to say I find it intriguing when someone clearly does not give one solitary fuck what anyone thinks about her and just sails right ahead regardless of the massive backlash she's creating.

Is this the kind of mettle Thatcher was made of?

Thatcher, Ann Culter, Bill O'Reilly, Rush and the list goes on and on...

On the grounds of pure logic, you'd have to make every mind-altering substance either legal and controlled or illegal and uncontrolled. But that ain't gonna happen, is it?

And in answer to the original question, statistically it isn't Brits or Poles but ..... those quiet inauspicious Luxumbourgians who are living it the largest at the weekend! Who'd have thought it;)

I'm seriously starting to think about printing out her... ehmmm... articles, framing 'em and hanging 'em on the wall. In the toilet.
PS: Yes, I've thought of THE OTHER use for them too.

I think it's good to be proud of your own nation, but Aleksandra has been taking this far beyond any limits. And good taste, too. Even those who aren't British feel awkward reading her rants.

They may drink much, but theire drinks are soo soft, I mean in PL you can get drunk after 4-5 beer (depending on your potential) in USA you can drink and drink and you get the feeling you will never get drunk

I think one should be proud of their accomplishments and not of their origin. You have absolutely nothing to do with where you were born, but everything to do with where you are at in life.

On the same note, people shouldn't be ashamed of their backgrounds either.

Regarding national drinking attitudes though, I bet the average town centre in Poland is a lot more orderly at 22.30 on a Friday than those in the UK.
Regardless of the actuall number of litres consumed, drinking habits in the UK seem to produce more chaos.

I don't think they drink more - they probably drink similar amounts as Poles, but in a different way. Brits keep in mind that the pubs close at 11 (12?) so when they go for a round or two they know they must be quick. I remember one weekend in Poland, it was a friend of mine's birthday he's a Pole and he worked in London at that time, decided to celebrate his birthday in Poland and brought three English workmates. They got drunk before 23 and couldn't believe we (Poles) were still sober. The difference in our drinking was that we knew we would like to go dancing and spend the whole night out (as we did eventually) and they had in mind they didn't have much time so when we were still having fun at 6 in the morning they were already suffering from hangover :) In the long run we drunk more but in a much slower manner and had more fun I suppose :)

There are a few things in "pani Ola"'s article that are true and may be shocking even for us coming to the UK for the first time. What was shocking to me while spending the first night out in the UK was the number of dead drunk young girls lying on the floors in disco clubs or throwing up in the streets. I don't say that Polish girls don't do the same, but even though, they don't do it in public places. If we go drinking and one of us is drunk, the rest of the company take care of them, arrange a taxi home, helps them to get there, etc - we rarely allow are mates to lie on the floor and leave them there.Patrycja P. edytował(a) ten post dnia 11.02.08 o godzinie 17:05
