I think kabaretki is a nicer name too, but the Polish people who were there at the time (philology lecturers, so I suppose they're reliable on this point) were insistent that they preferred the name 'burdelowki', and I've heard the name since. I also suspect they are seen more often in a burdel than at a kabaret, though I frequent neither!
