I don't imagine British people generally believe Polish women have yellow teeth or that Poles eat swans.

I doubt that even a significant minority have this opinion.

I am merely acting as pani Ola's messenger here.

I know :) I just imagined a Python-esque sketch like with these swans et al.,

Neither have I, but have no choice but to take up the gauntlet.

My opinion of the English has nothing to do with all the stereotypes as it is based on my personal experience and it's VEEERY positive. The ones I know are surprisingly very warm, friendly, helpful, intelligent, extremely practical and with a good sense of humour. Good organisers and reliable friends. They do drink tea with milk. Their skin looks OK to me and their teeth are within the norm.
Obviously , I am aware that there must also be some bad and stupid English people in your country - I am not that naive.

What about Poles then?????

Hehe, well, just imagine - Bicycle Repair Man vs. Charred Swans. We could also throw in some psychedelic live swans like the ones Alice in Wonderland played with. Plus Teletubbies music background and subliminal message "eat fries, eat fries". How's about that? :)

Tha's how big businesses are born. You need me as I know of a lake in Mazury with crowds and crowds of swans. Presume my uncle would easily agree to become a swan breeder and your supplier.

Marcin, I think the swans Alice played with were flamingoes.
There are no flamingoes in Mazury - do you already want to get rid of me... Even the slightest prospect of making big money makes people bad... Do you know anybody from 'flamingo' country/ies?

but they were psychadelic swans! I am sure that people have seen those around Mazury plenty of times.

Oh yeh. D'oh... Well, we could paint these swans pink to circumvent the problem ;)

We could always ask my supply chain folk to source cheap flamingos from China. If we agree to large minimal order quantity then we're sorted ;)

I don't actually believe you have accepted the challenge.

You have just provided a flattering, diplomatic personal opinion.

A stereotype is smething like:

Jews and Scots are mean.

The Irish are 'thick'.

Scandinavians are boring.

Germans are Nazis.

Italians are cowards.

And so on.

Sorry to disappoint, but Poles in the U.K. are in something of a 'honeymoon period' for the time being, as generally speaking they've only been there en masse for a couple of years.

Stereotypes generally take some time to evolve.

At the moment all that is said is that Polish women are very attractive, and that Poles work hard.

It will be interesting to hear what will be said in a few years time, particularly if there is a recession and jobs are scarce, and Poles in the U.K. stop being on their best behaviour and start to assert themselves.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 11.02.08 o godzinie 22:01

An interesting point. But as we know the entire population of France was in Zi Resistance and the Italians sort of weren't sure ;)

Poles are anti-Semitic.

Poles are homophobic.

Poles are racist. (to non-white minorities in Britain).

I was talking about stereotypes. (How Poles are perceived (by some) in the U.K.).

These are not necessarily my own personal opinions.

Alright, so what am I supposed to say? - I have no idea what the an average Brit thinks about Poles but I think that these stereotypes don't just appear by themselves. There always is some rationale for them to thrive. So yes, these are not pleasant things to discuss but should be discussed nonetheless.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you personally think Warren about these three points you have mentioned?
