He's my very favourite guru.
He claimed to be so holy that he had to be weighed down by material goods such as pink Rolls Royces and rolex watches, otherwise his spirit would leave his body.
He unashamedly called himself 'the guru of the rich'.
I copied his sales pater in my appeal for funds for the Aardvark group. "You are weighed down by material things. Let me take them from you. Then you will be free."
He poisoned an American town to prevent the townspeople from voting to further his ambition to make the settlement of Antelope 'Rajneeshpuran".
My own personal theory about him was that he was simply an amoral charlatan who amused himself by making ever more extreme and bizarre demands on his gullible devotees.

You wouldn't get bored with the free love. However, the cult coincided with the AIDs epidemic, so the devotees had to take all kinds of rather unerotic precautions to protect themselves, which probably rather took the fun out of it.

That mantle seems to have passed to one Ravi Shankar (not the musician of that name) whose religion has a price list. I don't think his devotees get free love, just breathing exercises (available anywhere - just google Prana or Paranayame - they work!) and a bill.

There wasn't anything in it in the true spiritual sense.
Just a very intelligent and amoral bloke with hypnotic powers.
Just because people believe strongly in something or other, that does not make the belief in any way true.
