I use Windows7 as the 2nd boot daily, but I fail to see anything 'new' compared to Vista.
It feels like an update, rather than a new OS.

A dude from Microsoft showed me some cool new tricks with it... supposedly it's much faster and it requires less... dunno...

My Vista works fine and I have to say that it has some nice features I would miss, if I had to go back to XP, which again was the first Windows I was happy with.
Nonetheless I'd like to ask, if the Games, which won't run under Vista (yeah, new ones), would run under Win7? Or do I really need an old XP as 2nd boot for stuff like that? Damn you game producers!!

Bernd, I think games will play fine, because big graphic card vendors like nVidia started working on drivers (for Win7) last year, and they are all ready for it.
Game producers can not avoid Windows operating system, it is their main driving force.

But I'd say, keep XP. Drives are big enough now to keep 2 or 3 boots in the same machine.
I'll stick with XP for longer than most of you guys, because it's the most stable Windows OS for music production applications and hardwares.

I stuck with XP until just now. I got a new PC and the resources of it are much better used by Vista, as I've been told.
Unfortunately even a lot of games you can buy now, hence contemporary ones, don't friggin' run on it. The internet is full of complaints and forums and help seekers.
Funny that big companies like EA or companies of big selling games like GT Legends are unable to sell a Vista-ready-patched game, nor release such a patch. It's, mildly put, a pain in the ass.

Pretty much every computer and operating system can suddenly turn "awesome" once you get the hang of it. :)

Windows, Unix-based distributions, AmigaOS, you name it.

Although I do agree that Mac OS X is one of the most user friendly operating systems around nowadays. There's also shitloads of really profesionall applications avaiable if you need it for your everyday line of work, especialy if you deal with media editing and whatnot.

Unfortunately - lack of games kinda kills it for me, Macintosh users are missing on a really big library of good titles. Although emulation of many video game console systems works flawlessly, so it's not like you'll get bored anytime soon if you aren't a total nerd. :)

Also more and more developers are actually porting their games for Mac's, so hopefully in the future it'll be less of a hassle to find a decent piece of entertainment software for all your gaming needs.

Anyway, back to the operating systems - as much as I love Linux, this picture always cracks me up:

No Steve, it is currently impossible to make a post with click-able image, in Goldenline - it requires HTML codes to be enabled.
It is the limitation of BBCode.

It actually depends on your needs/requirements.
If you have a faulty monitor, a hardware solution like KVM Switches can be advised.
If it is something temporary, then you may check the description on how you can 'share' screens and even take control of the other operating system+ machine:
http://www.codejacked.com/remotely-assisting-vista-fro...

If you tell me what's the problem/requirement, I could assist you more, maybe.
No problem, you're welcome :)ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 24.09.09 o godzinie 15:53

Okay. If worse comes to worse I'll just use a desktop monitor for an external monitor. I don't have it here, though. I could use any of my brothers' but when I have time for it it's usually kind of late.

I used a laptop when I would be out of town for my sports or whatever. It's smaller and lighter than my other. I have a black monitor. Nothing. No display. I could wave a magnet over the switch that puts it to sleep when you close it and I have normal operating conditions for about 15 seconds. I did that for diagnostic purposes because I updated the drivers in the past so I was ruling out software problems. These monitors have a magnet embedded in the molding around the monitor to activate the switch. I think I have a dual problem, hardware and software. I want to adjust the processor power mangagement settings in the Control Panel, and that's supposed to be a fix - a problem common to that model. It wants to save power by shutting off the monitor haphazardly. I changed that setting in the Control Panel too, to just not shut off, even if the lid is closed. Didn't fix the problem.

I have a lot of fotos, and some money stuff, etc that I want to get off of it before it acts worse.

So I just wanted to know if there is a way to use the monitor on my good latop as an external monitor for the one with the funky display problems. I think they call it cloning. I only want to display what's on the bad laptop. I have your link and I'm going to it now. Thanks :)Joj Y. edytował(a) ten post dnia 25.09.09 o godzinie 21:11

Scheisse!
(typo?)
That's tricky, then. Setting the faulty one for receiving any 'remote desktop' attempts might be impossible.

That'd be your best bet.
Usually when you connect an external to the VGA port, it doesn't need any other setting.
But I say drop your lappy to a repair when you're in downtown. Replacing the screen in a laptop is not a dirty job. I've done it once myself.
(Oh true, sometimes changing the laptop instead is more convenient. How old is this laptop?)ilter K. edytował(a) ten post dnia 26.09.09 o godzinie 11:14
