http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/england/821703...

Does anyone present who is not British know what that's all about?

I am still trying to gather what cricket is all about. I am not a fan yet but who knows...perhaps I will turn into an Ashes freak one day ;)

anyone who doesn't know what it's about should watch 'Lagaan' - it's a Bollywood film, but the gist of the game is fairly well explained in a little over 4 hours ;)

Here's a short, succinct definition:

Cricket

You have two sides one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that goes in goes out and when he's out he come in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.

When both sides have been in and out including not outs, that's the end of the game.

HOWZAT!

I had to read it twice...

I can imagine the people going in and out but what for? I mean, there must be something that makes that going in and out difficult. What are the rules (apart form the act of going in and out itself)?

Do women play cricket?

The rules are very complicated. (for foreigners).

You have to be brought up with the game to understand it.

Test playing cricket nations are England, the West Indies, Zimbabwe (but they don't exactly play a lot at the moment), South Africa, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand. All former members of the British Empire.

Cricket is by far the most popular sport on the Indian sub-continent, and cricket players there are as glamorouus as film stars.

I'll try and explain the rules as well as I can.

Yes, women play it, but it is not as popular as men's cricket.warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 23.08.09 o godzinie 23:18

The side that are 'in', that is the batting side, have to score as many runs (points) as possible.

They do this by trying to hit the ball as far as possible.

Here are highlights of a batsman scoring a century, (100 runs):

The side that are 'out', that is fielding, have to restrict the batting side to as few runs as possible.

The bowler, the guy that throws the ball, has to attempt to get the batsman 'out', by hitting the wicket, the wodden sticks behind the batsman.

Here are some clips of batsmen being bowled out. Each side has eleven batsmen. When ten are 'out', the 'innings' is over, and the other side is 'in' (batting).
