Temat: Anglosphere two years on:
Nice post Violetta.
About enthusiasm, well no-one remains enthusiastic forever.
And once you've written about your likes and dislikes, you don't want to repeat everything again and again.
It's great that a few real life friendships have been created here.
About 'stupid' arguments and people leaving. As far as I'm concerned, the internet friendships that have been formed here are in some way important, but then again not
that important. There is no sense in arguing with anyone over twenty pages. A few sharp words on the internet - well, no-one with any sense is going to put their head in the gas oven because of this. We all need to keep a sense of proportion about everything.
I would like anglo to be about 'genuine' interaction, and not "hello, you're nice, I really like you etc". Posters need to feel free to say what they really believe, even if this sometimes upsets others. And for some people anglo is not their 'cup of tea'. That's fine. There are other English groups on GL and elsewhere, where they can interact with
their kind of people.
It is difficult to create a space in which Polish people who have learnt English to a high level and native speakers in Poland can interact. Some of the perceptions that both groups have can be surprising for the other, and prejudices and false stereotypes need to be challenged robustly.
Anglo has been quiet of late. But I'm sure it can be revived in some form or other.
