Actually it's probably best to do things that way.

Gives people the chance to comment.

You're right in saying that when there's only one song you just listen to it, but if there are ten of them in one block, you do not know what to listen to. You need a lot of time for all of them.

I seem to be the only one who likes this funny piece of the Animals. That would be deep sixties.

You would have to post when my wife borrowed the loudspeakers from my computer.

Anyway your choices:

1. Leonard Cohen. My Mum likes him, so I've been familiar with his music for over 30 years. He's about the same age as my Mum. I quite like his stuff, including 'Suzanne'.

2. Tom Waits. Love him. My favourite song is 'The piano has been drinking'. Ever heard it?

5. U2. A pet hate of mine. I agree with the following description of Bono, "the king of fake sincerity".

6. Raz, dwa, trzy. My wife likes them. She sometimes plays a CD of theirs in the car which I also like.

8. West side story. Know it extremely well. Another favourite of my parents. Perhaps a bit corny and dated but good.

9 Chumbawamba. Like them. 'She's got all the friends' is a good choice, but wouldn't make my top ten, (or even twenty).

The others I don't know, but will listen to.

I could've listed nearly any 10 songs by Tori Amos or Cassandra as my top10, but wanted to present a spectrum of music ;)

re. Tom Waits - it's a long story :)
I like 'Rain Dogs' as a whole and Waltzing Mathilda and many, many others, too.
Liked him in the Down by Law and Coffee and ... by Jarmusch.

He's quite a character

Right, I'll be adding to this as I go along, too (music is far too important to just jot down!)

In no order:

1. Doves: Black and White Town
Fantastic song on a sunny day, and the video counterpoints the tune perfectly, in my opinion.

2. Van Morrison: And It Stoned Me
Referred to as Van The Man in Ireland, this poetic ode to a younger, carefree day shows why, and helps you forget the whole "Cliff Richard duet" thing. I couldn't find it anywhere online, but that makes it even more special!

3. Smashing Pumpkins: Today
I don't know if I would have put this down if Kari hadn't put "Sweet Sweet" down (Big Shout Out, K!). I went for more popular, more played, more commercial, but also, just more!

4. The Waterboys: The Stolen Child
I'm a fan of W.B. Yeats anyway, and I think the Waterboys, with Tomas MacEoin reciting the lyrics, bring the poem to life the way no fifth-year secondary schoolboy ever could!

5. The Wrens: What's a Girl
My best friend, Martin, gave me The Wrens' CD, "Silver", which has this song in the middle. It starts very quietly and slowly, and builds and builds in intensity, and builds and builds and builds and...Keith Byrne edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.06.08 o godzinie 18:54

6. Ash: Petrol
Everyone knows "Oh yeah", but Ash's first album, "Trailer" features this rockin' choon. And they were only about 15 when they released it. I hate talented people. I forgive Ash for the other great song on the album, Uncle Pat, and, of course, for Petrol.

I've been thinking a long time about this, and then I was listening to "Nowhere" by Ride, in the car, and Vapour Trail came on. I could have picked Dreams Burn Down or Taste from the same album. But Vapour Trail is my number seven because they used to play it at the end of the night at "Dazed", an indie club in Dublin in the early nineties. "La la la laa la"

I never thought I'd see the day! Mixed emotions abound -that's the first time Yeats has ever had that effect on me. Interestingly, possibly the closest emotion to his own when writing the poem!

9. Fleetwood Mac: Oh well
There's a DJ on Irish Radio, Dave Fanning, who's the Irish version of John Peel. For about twenty years, his show started with the first 43 seconds of this. "Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give an answer that you want me to!" Beats the pants off "Albatross", that's for sure!Keith Byrne edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.07.08 o godzinie 15:20

Hmm, difficult one - to choose only 10...

1. New York - F. Sinatra
2. Miracle Drug - U2 (all their songs are my favs really)
3. Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chili Peppers (same as above)
4. Sun is Shinning - Bob Marley (same as above I'm afraid :)
5. Co za dzien - Pidzama Porno
6. White Horses - Rolling Stones
7. Perfect Day - Lou Reed
8. Imagine - John Lennon
9. Somebody put something to my drink - Ramones :)
10. Foxy Lady - Jimmy Hendrix

and many, many more...

Would be easier if there were 20 to choose - 10 makes it very, very difficult :(

Forgotten about one 11. Bolero - Ravel - if I can't have 11, then Ramones have to go. Bolero is GREATMalgorzata F. edytował(a) ten post dnia 04.07.08 o godzinie 14:09
