I think that the audience laughter is a bit OTT, but it is worth seeing nonetheless.

That kicks ass ;)

Thanks Sylwia and thanks Ralf. You know we searched for that crack rock song for ever. You are so romantic. Ahh the old school rap is hilarious - with a message. Which may bring me to No. 8 (not really, well maybe)

This isn't something I would do lightly or even slowly.

I'll do mine one at a time.

I've done exactly the same thing before on another thread, in another forum.

http://www.goldenline.pl/forum/do-you-speak-english/13...

Anyway, I numbered mine in order of merit. This one is definitely my No1, and is as fresh and original as the very first time I heard it.

Sparks: "This town ain't big enough for the both of us"
Anyone else love this song?

OK. Now No 2. (Iknow I'm doing things the wrong way round).

I love Mark Bolan and his music. His songs are beautiful and gentle. I paticularly like the songs from his old underground days before he went electric, and was an obscure cult hero.

This is the most beautiful Tyrranosaurus Rex song, before Mark Bolan became a teeny-bopper glam rock idol.

Mark Bolan and Mickey Flynn, By the light of a magical moon., from a gentler, more idealistic and less commercial era.

This is a live recording, so the sound quality is better in the studio version.

Bolan was very much influenced by Tolkein, so Kasia P might like him.

And now for No3.

Eine Symphonie des Grauens by the monochrome set.

Predictably no response for No3.

But a truly great band nonetheless.

Now for No4:

The Stranglers: "Nice 'n' sleazy"

Legendary concert in Battersea Park.

Beautiful redhead. Must be in her fifties by now.

Aren't things bland now in comparison to how they were?

No-one got anything to say about the Stranglers in Battersea?

Keith?

Anyway, my next selection at No5:

Talking Heads: 'Girlfriend is better'

'Once in a Lifetime' is by far their best song.

However, David Byrne's fashion sense and dancing is very visually appealing to me in this vid. Not as good as Ron Mael's, but good nevertheless.

Watch it.

Maybe David Byrne's big suit is insufficient reason to put a song into No5.

Anyway, a change of plan.

The next song I dedicate to my virtual stalker.

No 6 The Smiths and "How soon is now?"

You shut your mouth
How can you say
I go about things the wrong way
I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

Any comments from anyone else on the Talking Heads vid?warren whitmore edytował(a) ten post dnia 05.06.08 o godzinie 22:51

Right, I'll be adding to this as I go along, too (music is far too important to just jot down!)

In no order:

1. Doves: Black and White Town
Fantastic song on a sunny day, and the video counterpoints the tune perfectly, in my opinion.

2. Van Morrison: And It Stoned Me
Referred to as Van The Man in Ireland, this poetic ode to a younger, carefree day shows why, and helps you forget the whole "Cliff Richard duet" thing. I couldn't find it anywhere online, but that makes it even more special!

3. Smashing Pumpkins: Today
I don't know if I would have put this down if Kari hadn't put "Sweet Sweet" down (Big Shout Out, K!). I went for more popular, more played, more commercial, but also, just more!

4. The Waterboys: The Stolen Child
I'm a fan of W.B. Yeats anyway, and I think the Waterboys, with Tomas MacEoin reciting the lyrics, bring the poem to life the way no fifth-year secondary schoolboy ever could!

5. The Wrens: What's a Girl
My best friend, Martin, gave me The Wrens' CD, "Silver", which has this song in the middle. It starts very quietly and slowly, and builds and builds in intensity, and builds and builds and builds and...Keith Byrne edytował(a) ten post dnia 03.06.08 o godzinie 18:54

6. Ash: Petrol
Everyone knows "Oh yeah", but Ash's first album, "Trailer" features this rockin' choon. And they were only about 15 when they released it. I hate talented people. I forgive Ash for the other great song on the album, Uncle Pat, and, of course, for Petrol.

So Nos 7 and 8

Time for a bit of pantomime:

No 7 PiL 'This is not a love song"

Live in Tokyo.

And No 8 'The Damned' 'Love Song'

'Live' in Germany.

Brits taking the piss out of Krauts.

Pure genius.

The Damned are fun. Enjoy.

Any comments are more than welcome.
